Avid BB7 problem

Hi everyone,

I recently put some new wheels on my Salsa Fargo, some Stan's Arch rims using Hope Pro 4 hubs and QR. On the front the rotor rubs on the pads metal spring where it joins both sides. I pulled the caliper apart to see if I was inserting the pads correctly and they are installed correctly. This problem does not happen on the rear.

With the old WTB rims it all worked fine but now it doesn't. I swapped the rotor and still the same problem. I have installed a bodgy fix by placing a washer between the PM and the calipers so I probably have 162mm offset instead of 160mm. I checked my rear caliper and it is working fine. I checked the number of washers etc on the rear to check the front was the same and it was.

Any comments/advice would be appreciated.

Are you using the same rotors?

Are you sure the pads are properly pushed up and engaged in the retainer clip?

PS, you have your offset out by a factor of two, because half of the rotor is opposite the caliper.

You are correct about the offset!

Rotors are the same. I disassembled the caliper to check it fit ok. Does it need heaps of force?

I am a dummy. The problem was I installed Shimano ice tech rotors which have a spider on the back. This spider was clipping the insertion tabs/handles on the BB7 pads.

I am sure Duck has seen this before!

Ah yes, I have seen that. Avid calipers are deeper than the Shimano models designed to pair with the Ice Tech rotors, and foul on the long spider arms.
