I have a 2006 Giant Alias that has been a good bike. I was thinking of installing a Shimano SLX groupset of the bike. Any reason why this wouldn't work? Seems like a cheap upgrade..

Your rear wheel/hub may not be 11 speed compatible.

Bike geometry has improved massively since 2006. I'd encourage you to look at a 29er hardtail of more recent vintage.

Shimano MTB 11-sp. cassettes are dished at the back so they'll fit on a standard hub. SRAM cassettes that use a 10T top gear need a special freewheel body, which probably won't be available for those wheels.Ross wrote:Your rear wheel/hub may not be 11 speed compatible.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
