Replacement for Shimano 2300 cranks

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can guide me with some new cranks for one of my bikes.

I have a flat bar roadbike which I use as a commuter, and the front chainrings are past their best and need replacing.
They are Shimano 2300 triple and by the looks of it a replacement of that same model isn't available so looking to see what else I can use.
It has a square taper BB but happy to get a new BB if square taper cranks are hard to find (which they seem to be).
I don't need the triple as I've never used the granny ring intentionally (sometimes hit it by accident) so happy to fit a double and adjust the derailleur to suit.

So, what options do I have in terms of cranksets? What other BB's can I fit to allow other cranksets to be fitted?
The BB is a standard screw in type, not sure of the exact size though.

In terms of series etc, I don't really mind replacing it with something similar spec to the 2300, I know this is low grade but this is an all weather bike which costs $350 brand new so really don't need anything fancy.

Shimano 2300 has been replaced with Claris. The original Claris cranks were octolink, which you should avoid like the plague - bottom brackets are expensive. Current model Claris uses external bearings & hollowtech II.

You should check how many teeth are on the 2 rings you use. I thought 2300 was a road triple, which is most likely 52-42-30. Most flat bar bikes these days come with 48-38-28, but some use a more MTB gearing of 42-34-24.

Square taper cranks are cheap & cheerful - eg Sunrace 48-38-28 $25 or Sunrace 42-34-24 $31.

Also, is it actually worn or do the teeth just look wonky? Because they're supposed to look wonky...

I hadn't considered Sunrace at all so thanks for the tip, looks like they might be the go. The current setup is 52-42-30

Yep, they're worn. Starting to look a bit like sharks teeth. Done around 15,000ks but I've never really taken much care of the drive train in that time

No they're not; they're about the same price as similar-spec square tapers.

Outboard bearings yes, Hollowtech II no - the cranks are solid.

Shimano began introducing "compact triples" during this generation of components, using 50-39-30 rings. 2303 is during the transiton phase, laters models definiely use the smaller combination.

Front derailleur would need to be changed, shifter will be fine if it's tuned carefully (most groups of that generation used the same shifter for 2x and 3x systems, but some models - particularly Tiagra & 105 -had a bit of a habit of breaking their guts on a 2x if not tuned absolutely perfectly, resulting in a later 2x-specific shifter.)

If the chainrings are worn, why not just replace the chainrings?
