Problems inserting seatpost into new bike

Hi again everyone,

I am having trouble inserting a seatpost into my new frame. The post came with the bike, it is a cheap FSA 27.2mm post. The specs on the web say the correct post size is 27.2mm. When I went to insert it I could not get it in at all. The frame is titanium the post Al. I have removed the tightening clip on the top of the seat tube.

Did some reading on the web. Measured both - seat tube = 26.9mm, post = 27.2mm on my cheap vernier calipers.

So tried sanding the seat tube with wet and dry and it made a bit of difference. Also found another old 27.2mm post with seat on it and managed to insert it to about 1 inch depth.

I am concerned if I force it anymore I could damage the frame. The slit in the back moves visibly as I try and force the post. I also greased the old post to see if that would help.

At this stage I see the only option is a 27.0mm post. I have contacted Lynskey and await their advice.

I built up a Lynskey last year and I had the same problem inserting a Thomson seatpost (which is sized accurately). Lynskey said that it was normal so I persisted and finally got it in.

The Lynskey should have an Alu shim/sleeve in the seattube. I can’t say I have had issues getting any seatpost into it on my Lynskey, so I wonder if the shim is just a bit too thick.

Mine seems to have the Al shim too. I have tried my hardest with no luck. I can only get it down to the blue area. The photo shows my Thomson elite post usually on my Salsa so I have tried 3 posts.

Any other advice appreciated.

I would contact Lynskey ASAP and see what they suggest. BTW, my R330 does not have an aluminium insert in the seat tube.

I had the same problem. My Orange P7 2008 seatpost buckled and cracked mid ride. The broken cro moly post is 27.2mm and a alloy shim is used to make it to 29.8mm. Bought a Thompson Elite as a replacement and initially it got stuck and wouldn't fit. Eventually I removed the shim (been in for 10 yrs) cleaned and lubed it and cleaned and lubed the inside of the seat tube. Inserted the Thompson Elite post again and it fitted perfectly.
