Seized pedals

Postby Ollie Tee » Fri Jun 15, 2018 6:39 pm

Hi everyone,
I recently replaced my crankset and pedals and have tried to remove my old pedals from my old crankset and they seem to be seized. The bike is second hand, so obviously the previous owner didn't apply anti-seize paste. Any tips for removing these stubborn pedals?

Rotate the crank so the arm you're working on is pointing forward, fit the spanner to the pedal spindle so it's pointing backward, and hit the spanner bluddy hard with a hammer; shock treatment can often be more effective than leaning heavily on it.

Apply grease to the threads before refitting the pedals.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

I use a piece of pipe over the end of spanner, gives more leverage. Remember left side is undone clockwise.

What Duck said, never failed me yet and I use a big hard rubber hammer.

Use a proper hammer to get the shock. Rubber mallets soften the blow and lose the effectiveness.
