removing nut on end of Mavic spoke

Postby jules21 » Sat Jun 23, 2018 9:56 am

does anyone know a good way of removing the nut from the end of a Mavic spoke?

you'll need to click here to view image

I bought this on E-Bleh and it's the right spoke, but I didn't expect it to have this nut on the end. Clearly was used on a different model mavic wheel to mine (Cosmic Elite).

Yes I've tried turning it with a spoke wrench and as you'd expect, it's bonded so that didn't work. There's limited scope for applying much force.

Hold the spoke firmly as close to the nipple as possible to minimise risk of twisting the spoke, and use a hex socket or appropriate spanner to remove the nipple. It will take a bit of grunt, but will come off.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Can I ask a silly question?

Why did you buy these spokes off fleabay?

Are they second hand and/or hard to get?

I ask because I have some similar Mavic's

yes they were cheaper off there. you can get them new but at $10 a spoke usually.

mind you, this seller made me work for them, renegotiating the price and sending to wrong address. I guess that's why reputable retailers charge more.

if you need any let me know.
