Ah, but the only time I want discs are when it's p***ing down. That's when I want to use lots of rear brake but that's also when the rear rim/brake is usually caked with wet road sludge (mix of brake dust, tyre dust and oil- tasty!) and takes that little bit longer to clear.Scintilla wrote:I reckon just rear disc-brakes are generally of minimal value; most braking power comes from the front end, even when carrying a touring load.

On a tour, if it's p***ing down, it's more likely I'd be sheltering someplace dry than riding. My current touring bike has cable-operated TRP Spyre disc brakes, however on a previous bike, V-brakes with Swissstop Blue pads on Rigida Andra CSS rims worked fine for me even in showery weather. I can't see much benefit in changing.
