622 x 18 rim how small a tyre can I go ?

Postby bikehack » Sun Nov 02, 2008 4:41 pm

Hi all

I have a 622x 18 rim . At the moment I am running a tyre 42-622 (700x 40c). I would like to run a 23 / 28 /32 mm tyre if I could. I have checked other threads here and link to Mr Browns site was helpful but had no info (that I could find) for a 18 rim ?
What do you guys (AT) gals recommend the minimum for my rim would be? Also I think the following question is rhetorical but I would need to change tubes too wouldn’t I?

Cheers all

Hi bikehack,

A 17mm rim will take a 25mm tyre with an issue, not to sure how safe it would be running a 23mm though.

Odd size rim, are there any other markings on it?

Looks like it is more likely to be 17.5mm so you shouldn't have any problems with a 25mm tyre.
