Track racing is supposed to be an all weather sport.... not when its an outdoor track. Could I get a similar workout on a spin bike?

To the contrary. Track riders seemed to be most sensitive to rain. They are always the first to get off the track with that first drop of rain.

Yeah... A bit of rain makes for a slippery surface and when youre basically running slicks at speed or on those quick direction changes its very, very easy to come off.

I'd race on the road in the wet even if everyone else is too soft but never on the concrete track we have here in newcasle the thought of what happens if I come off the wall is always in the back of your mind when its dry let alone when its wet.

Avanti22, Who told you track racing was a all weather sport ?????

Thats why we are lucky that our outdoor track has a bar right next to it!! It is never a lost cause going to track even if it does start raining

That being said - never a fan of riding track in the wet. Alternatively, build a roof 8)

It is when its an indoor track like bankstown. Oh how I'd love to be racing on that track. so smooth! our track gets a little bit bumpy :(

In newcastle of course  .... but all jokes aside its actually directly across from the broadmeadow horse track on chatham road, its the big metal gates with velodrome across the top in rusty metal letters.

Come on down to Tempe and I'll put a little water on the cote d'azure and let you ride on it. You'll realise very quickly when picking your sorry backside up off the deck why tracks and water don't mix.

Errr... I was just stating a fact, fully realizing the reason why trackies don't hang around on a wet track. 8)

But if you are going to give me a CF Teschner to ride on, I'll even ride on the mid-field grass field if you so direct me to it.

That's the best way too learn!
They may even have a bike you can hire, like they do at a local bike shop here in Caboolture.
I have raced on dirt tracks at some Show grounds , around SEQ. :) on the track bike. That makes for interesting racing a fixed wheel and strapped in. You would be suprised how quick a dirt track used for trotting is.

If the banks at Newcastle spook you (and they may) come have a go at Adcock Park velodrome in West Gosford. It doesn't have a bank at all really, but the racing there will help you fine tune your racecraft before you tackle the steeper banks.

Only problem is that racing doesnt start back up until October. :(

They have training sessions on during the week, including one using road bikes on Wednesday nights. Please confirm with CCCC

Yep, they sure do. Mondays and Wednesdays, both roadbikes only. The exception is Monday where the trackies get 30 mins at the end before the lights turn off.

Gold coin donation and you need to have a CA license, or at the least a social training license (it's a club sanctioned training session)

Nope not abandoned, it gets alot of use I can assure you! Not just cyclists either, we turned up for track training on tuesday to find some guy shooting up in the stands - to be expected when its right across the road from housing commision  But in all seriousness we race on wednesday night, And there are training sessions on tuesday morning & afternoon, thursday morning, and saturday morning. Plus individual sessions that myself and others organise.

Say What ! Pls tell me it was just a teenager messing around with an air rifle and not an adult with a firearm. BTW mate, how steep are those Newcastle banks ? Just asking as i'm new to fixed and track and was kinda spooked :) Cheers, Bas.

PS thinking about buying at Cooks Hill and leaving Inner Sydney

Just realised on 2nd reading you meant drugs not ballistics and that's sad. Poor soul needs to feel the rush of adrenaline when pedal pumping as nothing comes close when on the limit.
