How much fun is a points race?

Last night I had my first attempt at a points race. Managed to get a 3rd and then a 1st and then off the back after trying to continue off the front after winning the second sprint. I blew into many many small pieces. But how much fun.

This track racing rocks.

Good one Pete. :)

I enjoyed the points score races, especially the 50km one because I could inflict a whole lot of hurt on the straight out sprinters after the 20km mark.

They are a good training base to because of the sprints every 3200mtrs or they were that interval when I raced.

I like your description of the phases you go through Alex. :)

Just had a re-think on the sprint spacing and that does not workout right! :? It would of been every 2000mtrs not 3200mtrs because the track where the QLD titles were held at Hawthorne Park was a 400mtr track, plus it was 35yrs ago.

Like Alex said, don't try too win every sprint, just take placings for the first couple, then go for it for a couple and then see how everyone is looking and try for every second one. Of course this will also depend on the length of the race to, so customise your strategy to the length of the race and make people hurt.

We ran a points race at our crit circuit last Sunday.
Didn't ride myself, but those who competed said it was fun.
A grade ran 40 laps with a sprint every 5.

No-one managed to lap the field, which was good cause each race was closely contested.
