Went and had a play on Caboolture Velodrome to try out the Fuji. I need to go a longer stem as I was to cramped when out of the seat and kicking. :(

Oh and that's my Digital Video Recorder on the stem.

Bet those wheels hold your momentum once they're wound up. I've just received the 60mm deep versions for the fixie tandem conversion.

The bike looks the part though. :D

Yes they are heavy suckers, Cameron.

Once I get my stem length right, I'll have a real crack at some speed on it and see how it goes.

In race trim for next weekend. Still doesn't look to bad with the old school wheels on it. :D

Might have to get another pump though, if I want to get full pressure in my strips. The pump only goes to 180psi and these TUFO S3 lites, go to 220psi. :)

Probably a right of passage. I can't imagine the photographer just happened to be in the right place at the right time for it to accidentally happen.

No it was a common party trick done for the spectators in the 50s and 60's

Before everyone shares it ... it is being passed around as being Matt Gilmore which it is not. My opinion (unconfirmed) is that it is probably Aarhus track in Copenhagen which was a 110 metre track built inside an old movie theatre. The Danish riders were pretty good with the party tricks, Otto Olsen (Danish) was well known for doing this. My uncle Reg Arnold raced in Copenhagen a lot and was also able to do this, he was a great showman. Rik Van Steenbergen was another rider who would do this trick for the crowds. I suspect the rider is Danish, to me it looks a bit like Kay Werner Neilsen.
Not all the track riders / sixdaymen could do this. It was very dangerous and when you earn your living from racing, it was a risky thing to do. But all the great riders had their signature tricks, and this was one of the best ones. The crowds loved it. I believe my uncle did this on the Exhibition board track in Melbourne in a madison once in 1954. Never seen in Australia before or since.

I showed this photo to my father and he seems to think it may be Teruzzi a six day rider from Italy that he saw perform the same trick at Dortmund in 1954 food for thought guys

Congrats on your return

Looks like a similar or identical velodrome to the one my club uses in Sydney
