I'm looking seriously at getting some new track wheels.

Rear Wheel
I don't see any point in going for anything but a disc wheel. I hear conflicting story's ranging between there been bugger all difference between them to the opposite.
Cost
Someone mentioned that TWE has a disk wheel for $800, haven't checked that out. Mail order there seems to be plenty of options between $900 and $1,500. I don't object to paying more if there's value in that purchase. One that stuck out at me today was an FF one;

With the current discount, it works out at $840 delivered, so its a cheap option.

Front Wheel
This seems to be a mine field. There are so many options;
- Deep dish conventional spokes
- Solid spoke wheels - 3, 4, 5 spokes
My head hurts working this one out

But wait, there's more
Some disc wheels can be converted between track and road. I also need TT wheels, so I've had passing thoughts about using for both, but it brings up questions about tyres and braking surfaces.

Firstly I have to say get in contact with Greg (from TWE) he will look after you, I wouldnt buy wheels from anyone else now. I dont know how much they will be from him but he does look after his customers.

On the front wheel, I would go with a deep dish wheel, it will be more useful on outdoor tracks, if you are planning on doing the Christmas carnival or other track opens.

More interested in the NSW and Aust Masters champs, both will probably be run at DGV

The difference between a trispoke and a deep dish is very minimal (which is why you still see deep dishes at international level) however the wheel of choice seems to be either a 3 or 4 spoke on the front at the moment so maybe look into that.

Check out pro-lite. They've got a pretty rear disc and a few different fronts.

Most pro's seem to be using Mavic Disc and Mavic 5 spoke. Is there any aero data on the front wheels?

The Pro-Light wheel is on the same web site for about another $100. Once again, not a big difference in cost, but what's the difference?

I spoke to Sean Eadie a little while ago. He said (in reference to sprinters) that a disc rear wheel was worth 1/10th of a second over 200m with the top sprinters.

So I have no doubt that it would make a difference no matter who you are

The Pro-Lite is road and track compatible, its also one of very few disc's that the manufacturer will warranty for track tandem usage which should tell you something about the strength.

Someone used mine like a BMX jump last week and there isn't a mark on it. Actually the guy who rode over it barely had a mark on him since he landed on top of me but its all good

Word on the interwebs is that Mavic makes a very persuasive argument to use their wheels ($$$$) ........ apparently.

The PRO disc comes with the dura ace hub which might sway their argument. But that FFWD is a good price!

I puchased a disk and a deep disk spoked front. I'm currently using them for road TT and will convert them to track for the summer track season. The disk wheel came with both road axle and track axle. For the front its just a skewer change.

Running Veloflex Record 22mm singles on both wheels

Fast Forward 90mm front

I've got an old zipp disk rear wheel, but wasn't successful in sourcing the correct axle. Wouldn't mind getting it converted to a front wheel if it could be done without too much cost

Just go to a machine shop and get a new axle turned.

I did this to convert an old Zipp Predator disc. I had two axles made and plan on using the second to convert my old road Zipp 950. Currently I just have a Vittoria EVO CX glued on the Predator. With the second disc, I'll be able to glue on a Pista EVO CL for indoor only use.

I can photograph and get the measurements of my spare axle if you like?

Otherwise if you want to convert for front wheel use, there may be issues with the hub body hitting the forks? I know Alex has converted a Zipp successfully to use as a front wheel...

I think that old wheel is a zipp 950, I'll check when I get home.

R U in Sydney? where did you get the axle made up?

I'm in Melbourne - had a guy I knew through rock climbing make them for me...

The Predator, 1150 and 950 all used the same hub as far as I am aware; black hub with the screw on cluster thread on one side and the track and lock nut thread on the other. Easy to source new bearing and replace with a new axle. I'll hunt through my parts bin an try and photograph it plus the disc with the axle fitted.

I've also wondered about replacing the caps (for want of a better word) to make it a pure front wheel
