Getting on top of the gear??

Postby brades68 » Thu Dec 06, 2012 9:27 am

All, just looking for some clarity to this term in what does it really mean. I heard the phrase used the other night at training, as in 'he's having trouble getting on top of the gear'. So I got to pondering what that meant.
Is it a technique, cadence, strength or gear size related issue (or non-issue)? Google wasn't much use to me :(

Cheers
Mick

PS I'm still loving track, certainly no world beater, but I love what it's doing for my fitness and it's good hanging out with people who enjoy the same sport. At the Bundaberg track carnival this weekend with my youngest daughter (racing u11 and she turns 9 next year) who is also having a ball.
n = Specialized Tarmac SL4 (racing!), 89 Specialised (more info to come)
n + 1 = Felt TK3 (track - woohoo)

It's getting to the point where you can sit and spin freely and jump to a sprint without struggling.

gear size related issue
Mick
Sounds like your riding too bigger gear (as is often the case)
As Gary knows, and as discussed regularly regarding Track,
the ability to ride a smaller gear, pedal well and maintain cadence
and later move up in gears, still maintaining control and power.
