Realised I just don't know where they are. I know about Merrylands and Wyatt Park and DGV. Am I missing anywhere in the west?

Does anyone know if Merrylands is open on weekends (eg, afternoons)? I want to put in a lot more laps on the velodrome than just Monday/Wednesday/Friday.

Merrylands is a goat track that they only run juniors on these days because you can't safely get up to speed on it. I think it's public and open.
Wyatt Park is open to the public during the day while the groundskeeper is there. He is usually there 6am to 2:30pm.
Hurstville is inside the cricket ground and I don't think it publicly accessible.
Tempe isn't publicly accessible
DGV is open during the day unless there is specific training on for NSIS or similar. The website has the lock-out times. DGV is $10 for "unlimited" time, but unless you've ridden it before, you're going to have to use it under competent supervision.

That's pretty much it for Sydney.

Xplora: Do it mate, do it! Seconded the above on DGV. Not been on it yet, but having seen it, it's way different to the outdoor velodromes. You'll want to get some riding under your belt first before going on there.

BFV: I might get out to Wyatt on Saturday and Sunday in the morning and just ride until my legs scream no more.

Chris, I don't know if the caretaker is there on those days, and you may run in to problems if there is a sporting match on the field (though I think you're safe in the summer). Other than that, there's a hole in the fence if you know where to look.

Bowral velodrome not on the NSW list. Its been resurfaced and has new light towers as well.

Etiquette for taking brakes onto the velodrome outside organised training? Interested in having a pootle.
BFV, the freebee nights are on my radar, honestly I don't mind paying, it's the bike loan that is more important lol

We have (I hate to say this) triathletes play around on our track from time to time, using brakes, and probably peeing on their downtubes, or whatever other disgusting things these people do. You won't get on DGV with brakes, but you will at Wyatt Park.

Come out to the track on Friday. If we have a bike available in your size, I'll hook you up. Club members get first pref, though. It's worth having a look at any rate. We have a few Penrith guys come out, so you won't be alone.

Most of the country velodromes aren't on the wiki list.

fixedgearfever.com had a great velodrome list. But Scott the site owner is pulling the pin and when I went to check it last night google warned the site was now loaded with malware...

Tracks were pretty commonly built around cricket/football ovals in country towns. The number that are steeper banked velodromes is smaller.

Break down is:

ACT 1
NSW 31 (5 in Sydney) - took out Wiley Park and added Bowral.

Bringing an old thread back to life... does anyone know if you can just turn up and use one of these, eg Lidcombe Oval? Lets say I just happen to be passing at 2pm on a Tuesday, and its not being already used?

For Lidcombe, if the groundskeeper is there and there's nothing on in the mid-field, you can go for it until the groundskeeper leaves. For Tempe, it's locked up. DGV you can pay, I think it's $20 now, and get unlimited time on it.

Come along to Lidcombe on Friday nights in the Spring/Summer and race. Come along to DGV during Friday nights in winter and race.

Obviously the groundskeeper's day off. I'll extend my Friday night invitation to you too.

If you have a CA licence and a track bike you are welcome to come to training on Monday and Wednesday evenings with Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club. Cost $10.

Other than that, it's closed unless by prior arrangement (and payment of track hire).

Just wanted a pootle really, even though I have a CA licence, and anyways I don't have a track bike - got a singlie but its the commuter so its got brakes and is not fixed. I can probably remove the mudguards

I'll try to get to Lidcombe on a Tuesday morning, though I guess its a bit of a lottery.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread. I was just wondering if access to Wyatt Park is still the same as this thread suggests (6-2:30)? Also, could I ride a recumbent bike (with brakes) on this track? I just want to do 200W for an hour and see what speed it does.
