So I do the TT, manage a personal best, drive back home after a coffee in Mundaring. Chidlow is about 50kays east of Perth in the rolling hills and forests of the Darling Range. The circuit and profile are here
I overtake a small cyclist wearing her British Road Racing Champion Jersey. Its Emma Pooley, who has just torn up the Chidlow course wearing the TT World Champion Rainbow Jersey, setting a new women's record for the circuit and coming in 11th overall.
She was on her way to Bentley for the crits. She started 40 seconds late, and managed to rip up the circuit to take out the win. She has warmed up, ridden 27km of hilly TT, averaging 38.1kmh, then got changed, swapped from the Cervelo P4 to her cervelo road bike, ridden the 50km to the crit and wiped the floor.
Its a privilege to have riders of her calibre showing us how to push pedals.
And for letting me know that drinking coffee and eating scones is not what it takes to be a champion :D
The bicycle is a curious vehicle. Its passenger is its engine.
