With the head, draw a horizontal line across your back and just try to minimise the height of your head above this imaginary line by dropping your head turtling. This should also reduce the gap between your helmet tail and back. Just this change alone should reduce your CdA by a good margin.

According to testing the beard is only 1 second slower over 40 km...ft_critical wrote:and to shave

And some theorise shaving the morning of a race diverts a small amount of your bodies energy to start growing the hair... Which is why you will often see some stubble in the person.

When there is low hanging fruit (or high sitting melons) and other obvious improvements which I'd suggest be costing minutes and suggestions you could save that second by not shaving the morning of the race, I think Jules21's beard is fine as it is...foo on patrol wrote:That, can be the difference between 1st and 4th.

Hi Grim, my name is Bruce and I am interested in getting into time trials. I do not have a TT bike as yet, but I have seen your mode of transport and I think it is the best I have seen.Grim wrote:Waiting for my Zipp 404 firecrest front to turn up this week and set of Ultremo HTs.
Would love to have a chat with you if at all possible for some direction.

Bruce post your question as a new topic in the Time Trial section, you will get some advice there. No-one will see your question here.brucejm wrote: Hi Grim, my name is Bruce and I am interested in getting into time trials. TT bikes are not a mode of transport in my opinion, they are a pure race machine designed to go fast in a straight line. They are not good around corners or up or down hills.

My instinct is to stay away from the Trek bikes, they are pretty expensive. Giant Trinity might be the easiest way into TT bikes unless you can find a pro team selling spare frames. Beware of race bikes for sale from pro-teams, getting the fit right might be tricky and they are usually set up for riders who are super flexible and fit.

Just saw the Cervélo P5x. Is that the first Tri bike with discs?g-boaf wrote:I think DD is right, TT bikes are a terrible transport option, but they corner sort of okay. Braking is what I don't particularly like on mine. That's the major difference. Up hill I didn't find any great problem - downhill, they are veryfast, but then the braking comes into play.

Unless someone else has done their own homebuild effort. That is wild! Doubt we'll see anything like it UCI legal.kb wrote:Just saw the Cervélo P5x. Kind of time trial related but not really. This is my recently purchased Specialized Shiv that I race in triathlons. Photos are from its first race on December 11. This is only my second time racing a TT bike so apart from a bike fit, I haven't received any technique or positional coaching. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Shimano Ultegra di2 6770 - 53/39 and 11-28T

1. Try to get in a "turtle neck" position so your is not up in the wind but rather only as high as your back this reducing your frontal size.
2. To me, it looks like your hands can come up higher, closer to your head to create a more "bullet" shape at the front; less of a parachute shape. This is how my bike fit ended up with 3D Bike Fit.

How much did your bike fit cost?DaveQB wrote:I'm new to TT bikes so take this with a grain of salt.
