I'm not making a recommendation, I went searching for my FF front wheel, which doesn't meet your spec anyway and found this Zipp http://www.bikebug.com/zipp-60-front-cl ... 27594.html Its a bit over your price and perhaps a bit heavier, being a alloy/carbon hybrid. Do you want clincher or singles? Alloy or Carbon braking?

Another option is to buy a set for your road bike and use the front for both

I've been eyeing these... Seem good for the price, but from what I can find they are quite dated? Would it be better putting the $999 towards a more expensive and better set?

Guess its a case of what you can get a price point

Someone else would be better as to advising the wheel(s) to get

I recently got a set of fc 404 clinchers. They are very good in the wind. I hardly notice any steering input. Seriously bugger all, much, much better than my 85mm token tubulars. They take some hanging onto but you do adapt. The 404s take no adaption at all ime.

I have a cervelo S5 with pre firecrest zipps 404, really good in crosswinds.

I now also have a bottecchia emme2 with reynolds mv32ul and this bike gets blown around a lot more. So depth of wheel, aero bike, doesn't always comput to more crosswind buffering.

Yes mines an S5 also. Great bike hey ;)
The 85mm tokens are significantly worse but not unrideable even on a windy day.
I'm 184cm 75kg so not a heavy strong bloke either.

The pre firecrest 404s seem to be a good affordable option then. I will go clincher if there is a good pne available but thats not that important to me.

Don't think the pre firecrest 404s clinchers were all carbon, but rather carbon with alloy brake track.

Is the 88mm Chinese wheel all carbon? If so consider getting an all carbon front wheel, otherwise you will need to swap brake blocks when changing wheels. I prefer the flexibility of being able to swap wheels at the last minute without necessitating a brake block swap by sticking with the same brake track material.

Yes the 88mm is all carbon. But my roadie ( Prolite Braciano) is Alloy.
For the amount of braking I do either TTing or TT training on the road ( not much ) ..Does it really matter if I use the same brake pads? ( Which I currently do)
I also would not be planning to swap out the pads at the last minute.
But good point..perhaps I should go a tubular full carbon.
Thks

The problem with using alloy wheels is that your get small quantites of alloy in the pads, then when you put your carbon rim wheels in the alloy filing can damage your carbon rim

Just to clarify, my zipps are all carbon tubulars, if that makes any difference. :)

Not only that, but pads for carbon don't brake as well on aluminium, and pads for aluminium tend to build up more, potentially damaging heat in carbon rims.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

404s have been through a few evolutions, from carbon/alloy, full carbon standard width, then Firecrest.
