Yes they seem like a bloody good price!... over the last 24 hours looks like I am getting talked into a stage race 1st weekend of May with a 10km TT to start ...70 km stage next day followed by 25km TTT same day and a 100km the 3rd day... might look into a TT bike sooner rather than latter :D .

That Planet X Exocet 2 frame looks like pretty good value - 899.99 GBP (1,334.93 AUD)

Ribbles offering looks even cheaper at 511.96 GBP (758.65 AUD), but doesn't include the forks and seat pillar, so the price differential is narrowed
Ribble Ultra TT Frame inc Seatclamp

The problem with any purchase such as this is gathering the necessary info, ie aero etc etc to make a decision

Also just for a quick price comparison, I surfed around for look 596 frames and only found pricing onUS ebay

The Exocet2 is actually 750 GBP. 899 is the VAT inclusive price.

The ribble frame/ fork/ post is AU$911 delivered to you Mike.
€820 for me.
Very good price for a nice looking frame. Would still be a good price for an alloy frame but for full carbon it is exceptional.
Big thing for me is that they make a XL.
The chief has given the go ahead for the may stage race... And I think we should get a team of 4 no problem.
Woohoo.

Thanks Chookman, didn't spot that. 750.00 GBP = 1,109.95 AUD

So we are talking just AU$200 between them, but of course that's no a consideration for you cos you need the mega size.

Are you going to break it?

Mike I expect I will... But as I am considering 2nd hand at least I will have a chance of warranty with the ribble... That and my ribble winter bike has lasted 3 years so far! :-) .

But it would be nice if it lasted a couple of years!.
I was very pleased to strip down my alloy cx frame the other day and find no cracks...put it away till next winter.
But then I have only done 6 races and 3 or 4 training rides on it... Maybe 15 hours in total.
Anyway price is very tempting even though I haven't got €800 floating around at the moment.

Most likely GST - no duty that i'm aware of. There is also customs processing fee of around $50.

I've had a Planet X stealth since '06 and it's been faultless - on top of that the PX guys are always very helpful.

Ah, I've just scored an old track disc wheel. I'll convert it to a front wheel as I'm not confident to use it as a rear wheel.

Pity I have no use for it until 2013

Chookman wrote:Mike, As you do some track racing, I'd hang out for the Zipp 900 disc. they can be used for road or track - there is a track axle adaptor which is pretty inexpensive and the conversion is done in a few minutes. Corima also do a track converter but it costs a lot more and is a pain in the arse to convert. The wheel has to be ordered from the factory with the hub set up to take the convertor, and this costs extra. Also, good luck trying to get hold of one!
The Pro-Lite Padova Disc is Road & Track compatible, we include the track & freehub hardware with the purchase so you don't need to buy anything (except some some basic tools so you can swap the axle's over).

They are a very strong and highly regarded product, even suitable for use on a tandem.

For the front, we sell the Pro-Lite Vicenza which are UCI approved. If you purchased a 50mm front, 50mm rear and a disc and for the price of 3 wheels you are covered for road, track and tt racing.

We also sell a 5-spoke carbon front wheel called the Rome if you want the ultimate tt combo, rome front, padova disc rear. The nice feature of the 5-spoke carbon is that its very manageable in cross winds and is said to have similar aero benefit to a 90mm spoked wheel. The rome also includes track adaptor hardware.

I'm not interested in using the same wheel for road and track as I want to run different singles

Not sure if your road racing is run at a different part of the year to track (ours is seperate) - but if that were the case you could swap the tyres if you really wanted to.

I run tyres on mine that I'm happy to use for both road & track.

Swapping them would be a major effort, its not like clinchers

In the long term, I'm happy to have different sets of wheels for the Track.

Token front and disc saw em yesterday on here, pretty cheap.

I run a disc like jacks posted and an 85 mm token front. The disc is ok but on the heavy side. The 85mm front blows around a bit but once you get used to it you relax, I've never had to swap it out because of the wind. The disc is fine dont notice it in the wind.

Using vittoria in 700x 21. No science behind it just what others in the club recommended. Pretty happy with them.

Yeah it just that I thought you ran tyres similar to run width so as not to negate some of the deep dishes effect.
