Blackburn ITT
Postby Gunlock » Mon Apr 28, 2014 9:38 pm
Anyone else doing the Blackburn ITT series over winter? 2 laps of Yarra Boulevard (E and F grade 1 lap) once a month.
I raced E grade in the first race of the series on my road bike sans any aero gear but since then i've picked up a cheap time trial bike (picked it up for a half ironman early next year, but it'll now see more TT use) so i'm interested to see what kind of time i can pull out over the 2 laps on a tt bike compared to my normal road bike.

I normally race these but am getting my collarbone plated this Wednesday so will be out a few more rounds... Great tough hit out close to the CBD.
I recommend that you practice as much as you can on the new bike before the next round.

Good day out, roads a little damp but at least it wasnt actually raining.
First time out on my TT bike, felt pretty strange staying tucked for so long.
39:30 and 7th in D.

Thanks. I got 6th in D with 39.21. Broke the 40 minute barrier which was the aim. Had 'fun'. Now have to find some more speed. First I'll start with some racing tires. Am thinking Continental Grand Prix TT. They are the same construction as the GP 4000 s but with less tread. You get less mileage out of them but you save 25 grams. Vittoria tires have no puncture protection (neither does the Continental Supersonic) which seems stupid for amateur racing with no support car.

Haha, beat me by 9 seconds!
I forgot to move a bidon cage across to my TT bike before i left on Sunday, really would have liked a drink halfway round the second lap.

So was this just the full length of the Boulie, Walmer return - or was it a seperate route?

Two laps from Walmer st to the roundabout just before the bridge over the Eastern Freeway. They don't use the segment between the freeway and Chandler Highway, presumably because it would be more dangerous to put a turn-around there.
