Specialized safety recall - aerobars - Shiv/Transition Apex

Postby g-boaf » Tue Feb 24, 2015 9:39 am

Just got word that there is a safety recall for Specialized Shiv bikes 2012-2015 and Transition Apex regarding the aerobar extension clamp bolt which could break causing you to lose control and crash. There is a voluntary global recall.
SPECIALIZED SHIV 2012-2015 OWNERS AND TRANSITION APEX 2013 OWNERS

Specialized has identified a potential problem with the Aerobar extension mounting hardware on Carbon Aerobars with Aero Stem and Hydroformed Alloy Aerobars and has issued a voluntary global recall to ensure rider safety.

The concern is the extension clamp bolt may break, which could result in the rider losing control. For safety reasons, Specialized requests that all riders who have these Aerobars stop riding their bikes.

These Aerobars have been sold separately and as original equipment on the following bike models: 2012-2015 Shiv models (excluding the Shiv TT and Shiv framesets); 2013 Specialized Transition Apex.

Specialized is working to expedite a solution to the situation and we will update riders on this as soon as possible. Specialized has also indicated that riders will be compensated for time off the bike in some way.

We appreciate that this is a frustrating situation, but rider safety must be our top priority in these situations. If you have any queries, please feel free to get in touch with us via social media channels, email or on 02 9279 4200

Please share with your networks and riders who may be affected.
