My Commute whilst in Sydne consist of:

Pyrmont around Darling Harbour, through Central Park into the Domain through Botanical Gardens, past opera house around circular key and rocks across harbour bidge though North Sydney and along trail into Chatswood.

Would challenge others to find a beter commute as I can divert through Kirabilli, around the harbor when i want to ad K's and even sometimes go via Manly or Bonda

I'll post some photos but can anyne claim a better commute being about 20 ks and scenic, not to mention the lycra brigade of girls walking and training with there personal trainers in the park

Ok not technically commuting pictures, but I did take them on one of my extended commutes home from work. Always reading about people cross training so I decided to go run up a hill.

Only about 500 meters each way and for my first time only ran half way and walked the rest, but was lots of fun and a great view.

Oh and no there's no roads at all to the top.

G'day

Since we now have a proper commute section, I have moved this. Might be worth making it a sticky here.

G'day

Thanks to Martin for starting this thread. I have now bumped it up as a sticky to encourage more folks to share their commuting pictures.

Regards
Andrew

Sometimes you see things on the commute that are worth stopping to take a photo

I am surprised that it hasn't been picked up for conversion by a fixie diehard.

What's the bet that it'll show up in the retro/fixie sections, seeking for an ID of the frame?

Yes, one of the back roads Colinroobie RD and the dirt road is Middle Rd I think.

The owner came out while I was taking the photo. His shed had caught on fire.

Sometimes my ride takes me past Wollongong Harbour. Sometimes I'm there before the sun comes up and sometimes after.
Today I was there after and it still looked good.

Drizzly morning, Canberra style...

Always pack my camera and phone in my backpack and on a schedule so yet to get any choice photos.

Most of the people at my office think I am weird for riding a bike to work - surely its much easier and faster to drive, just like normal people do ? Some others think that I must be bitterly poor, and can't afford the petrol or running costs of a car. I think they might even feel sorry for me.

Anyway : here is how I start my day at work .. see the pictures, and see if you can work out why, given a choice, I ride to work. This is the 'long' way - 25mins tops, relaxed pace.

Image
Leaving the house.

Image
First part of the road heads up to the beach. No traffic through here.

Image
Onto the beachfront - shared path, usually a few pedestrians and a few bikes.

Image
Bouncy thing, camels, friendly crowd.

Image
Fee beach volleyball all year round.

Image
More paths - this is the rebuilt 'Magic Mountain' and million dollar ferris wheel. Nice wide paths to ride on.

Image
Tra la la la, la la la la.

Image
The old girl is still looking good.

Image
Path now splits off from the road and follows the beach - bikes and walkers only. This is the slow road - if you are running a timetrial, go right here and follow the road.

Image
Up to the boat club.

Image
Boat ramp and fishing spot.

Image
After the boat club, path now winds its way along through the sand dunes - awesome path, very wide and everyone is very friendly along here.

Image
Through the dunes - past the back of the holiday camp / caravan park.

Image
More path ... almost out now.

Image
Final section - used to have problems here with sand blowing across the track, so they rebuilt this track using pine planks, now all the sand problems are fixed. This wooden track continues later on after you get past semaphore, and its fun to ride.

Image
Out of the dunes and into West Beach -

Image
Bike friendly West Beach lifesaving club - brilliant spot to stop for a coffee if you need a break :)

Image
Down onto Burbridge Rd - a nice little descent, you can easily pickup over 45km/h down here and hold it on the straight that follows. Low traffic, wide road, no probs.

Image
First set of lights, crossing Tapleys Hill Road ... Adelaide's Hills looking inviting in the distance. This is the only slightly dangerous part of the route - major intersection with traffic flowing in from the left here to head up Sir Don Bradman Drive .. and no declared bike lane. Can get a bit squeezy up ahead, although the option is there to hop on the path which you can see to the left of this pic. This path is for inner suburb traffic and continues along to the golf course. Notice the lights have car lights, pedestrian lights - and bike lights !

Image
Last light - this light is an access light for bikes and pedestrians to cross Sir Don Bradman. Bike lane exists here, but it stops and starts for the rest of the way into town. We are going to push the button here and cross over into the airport - nice big wide roads in there with only courier traffic.

Image
Inside the airport complex now. Can stop to look at the helicopters and things - or put in a big sprint finish.

Image
There is actually an MTB path over to the left of the roads inside the airport here .. worth a look.

Image
There is a truly awesome Criterium track around here - that is not in use over the weekend. I wonder if we could organise something ?

Image
And there we go - made it to work. There are a couple of other guys that ride to work as well, and we always LOVE to talk about how our ride's went that morning. There is always something to tell, something different and genuinely interesting every day. I have NEVER heard any of the car drivers come in, greet each other enthusiastically and ask how their trip to work was ;)

I guess that makes me the weird one.

+1 You'd have to be an idiot to drive to work when THAT is your commute. You're damned lucky to have most of your route on cycle-ways and shared pathways. Mine's all roads except for a short bit on grass to avoid traffic lights and go down a back street. There are 3 sets of traffic lights on my commute, so it's not too bad I suppose. Bug DANG! I'd love to have a commute like yours.
