Nice... The bike, the scenery and the camera, thanks for that.Mugglechops wrote:No wonder you have done so many kms with a ride like that everyday.

You have a pretty good looking commute too. Love being out in the bush.

Thats basically a spare parts car. some guy was selling it to a scrap metal yard and I told him I'd give him $50 bucks more than the scrap yard... so $130 dollars later it's mine. Considering the gearbox in mine was going to cost $250 to replace from the wrecker's, I got a bargain.

It was exactly one of these trucks and trailers that nearly put me in hospital through no fault of his many years ago. He was passing me and I decided to pull behind him to catch the draft and without checking behind I started to move across. That was when i realised there was a trailer behind him on one of those long low tow beams. I damn near shat myself as I hurriedly pulled back towards the curb. I don't know how close I came to wearing it but it was a nice loud wake up call.norbs wrote:Sharing the road.

Yep I reckon I am too. I rode home rather sedately after that scare. Didn't stop me though. One of my best memories is of drafting a semi for approx 7kms on Leach hwy. Would have drafted him longer but he started speeding up. I held him no worries at 70km/ph, I was maxed out at 75km/ph and I lost him when he hit 80km/ph not bad on a 52/12. For the record I got behind him at the lights of Leach and Orrong and lost him just before Leach and Bungaree.Lizzy wrote:Holy. Living. Crap. Not mine, but thought it worth sharing as a commuter picture. It was taken at the Michigan Tech University apparently.

It is great, and hard not to be smug (or to not show it anyway ).familyguy wrote: Nice to beat a line of traffic up a hill like that.

Here is a video of the same sort of thing on my commute. Could cause motion sickness (2x speed) or extreme boredom, but it shows the only way to reliably commute on this road in peak hour:

I watch this, and I see the traffic on the roads on the way in to work, and I don't know how people do this every day. The would be stuck for half an hour in that traffic. It would drive me crazy.Marto wrote:It is great, and hard not to be smug (or to not show it anyway ).familyguy wrote: Nice to beat a line of traffic up a hill like that.

Absolutely, these people in cars must be so patient or have some way of dealing with it or blocking it out. It makes their commute time so variable, so some days they must be really late for work due to outside influences. If I HAVE to leave my bike at home, driving makes me nuts. I would rather take public transport and read a book or listen to podcasts as I go.DavidS wrote:I watch this, and I see the traffic on the roads on the way in to work, and I don't know how people do this every day. The ones I come into regular contact with seem to cope with it by continuing to do the same thing and expecting different results [/unrepentant smug-biznitch cyclist]Marto wrote:Absolutely, these people in cars must be so patient or have some way of dealing with it or blocking it out.

I drove to work today for the first time in ages - patient I am not but the only way I could deal with it was think about how much more I am going to enjoy riding tomorrowLizzy wrote:Marto wrote:Absolutely, these people in cars must be so patient or have some way of dealing with it or blocking it out.
