What! like you. Martin Never underestimate the power of human stupidity!
Re: Best commute timeSorry, it was a reply for munga.

"No probs Bob" Martin Never underestimate the power of human stupidity!
Re: Best commute timewow, some of these commute times are fantastic!
How do you keep your cadences so high with the normal suburban hills? Mine always drops down heaps, as the roadie has 42x22 as the lowest gear, which really slows me down. Is it easy to find a 7 speed casette with a bigger gear? ![]()
Re: Best commute timeMy best time is 1h13m05s from Croydon South to Hallam: 33.6kms.
Avg. speed 27.7kph. Avg. cadence about 90rpm. (just guessing, I don't record that on each ride, just pay attention so it doesn't slip) It ain't road-racer speed but I'm happy with it. --Current rides: Cannondale Bad Boy 8 || Surly Big Dummy

Sounds good to me Martin Never underestimate the power of human stupidity!
Re: Best commute timeSo far my best commute time from Woden to Marcus Clarke Street in Canberra (10.33km) is 00:19:10.
Average speed was 32.3km/h and top speed 46.5km/h. Over a similar distance my best commute time was around the 21 minute mark. I did recently swap from Specialized All Condition to Continental GP4000s tyres and they seem to have made an substantial improvement. Re: Best commute timeSo far the best ive done is
Distance : 13.3km Average Speed: 24.8km/h Cadence: ???? Its improving slowly and steadily. 2009 Scott Speedster S30
Re: Best commute timeBest short commute I've done to date, met my wife picking up tea and didn't want to eat it cold.
Distance: 9.38 k's Time: 19 minutes 1 second Average Speed: 30.42 kph Now if I can only do that over a longer distance. Martin Never underestimate the power of human stupidity!
Re: Best commute timeWell my commuting pattern has changed somewhat over the last few months.
Family committments (re: picking up the princess from school) has meant that I rarely get to do a full commute of 85km return nowdays. Not wanting to drive in each and every day, I've worked out that I can drive halfway, park the car, and ride the remaining 23km to work along the same route I used to take. This means I can get back to the car in time to drive to the school to pick her up. Last week I decided to take the MTB so I didn't have to clean the roadie again after riding in the rain. Well, I was totally stuffed by the time I got back to the car in the afternoon. How hard is a MTB to ride on the road after riding a roadie? It also took me 9 minutes longer than my average on the roadie. Decided to stick with it this week, and although the times were still high, they kept coming down each day. On Thursday morning I rode in with a time of 51:39, which is only 1:39 of the roadie average (best time on the roadie was about 45:30 I think). I kinda hoping that this is a good training regime and it will help my racing. Kev.
Re: Best commute timeSet a new best time for commuting with the Bob trailer tonight
I had the Bob because I was returning to Brisbane from Sydney. Flew into Bris, taxi to the office then onto the trusty commuter (hard tail MTB) plus Bob Trailer for the overnight bag / brief case. SO the Bob plus my bags =18kg Averaged 29.15kph for the 25k commute home (the commute is actually about 26k, but I warm down for the final k so don't count that for best-speed calculations) Pretty bloody happy with that
Re: Best commute timeComute times on the MTB have continued to tumble for the majority of rides.
As far as helping my racing, I think it has. Now to keep it going through the winter. Kev.
Re: Best commute timeMy best commute to work is:
Dist = 36.6km Ave spd = 30.1km/h usually I tend to do about 29km/h. homeward I average 26-27km/h 2010 BMC SLC01
Re: Best commute timeAfter focussing on endurance rides for the past few years I have noticed that my pace has dropped off a bit compared to haow I used to ride before that.
However having recently joined the Duttons club and done some rides with them it has encouraged me to get the pace back Seems to be working. Averaged 33.67kph for the 25k commute home tonight on the trusty hardtail. In the early 2000s I had a fastest commute of 36kph for a similar distance & route (still the same bike) and used to pretty regularly hit the 33kph average. Today I am older
