Nice commute this morning, a big pod of dolphins and pelicans to watch from the bridge over the swan river in East Perth. Even had a dolphin stick it's head out of the water right under the bridge for a look at us.

Wow, now that's a nice thing to see on your way to work. Any photos?

This morning's commute was almost perfect. The sun was shining and I felt good. Knocked three minutes off my best, which was great as I've only been commuting for a fortnight.
This evening's commute was a stark contrast. I live in Canberra and it's pretty chilly in August. I left work at 6 into a stiff, bitterly cold breeze which was joined by near-freezing, steady rain 10 minutes later. It's amazing how quickly one can accept one's condition and crack on. Had to stop twice to satisfy myself that my phone, camera and wallet were secure and dry in plastic bags in my packpacky thingy. Don't think I'll restrict myself to fair weather riding. It doesn't get much worse than tonight's weather these days, and it wasn't that bad.

What a fantastic morning. I got up this morning and thought I might just jump on the bike and commute to work rather than drive.

Considering this being the first time on my bike in about 10 months it was a struggle but I made it. I think I just pushed to hard to early so about 2 thirds of the way there I had really sore legs and struggled to peddle but I had to push on and int mind I knew it will only get easier.

I had a guy in full lycea fly past me near the honeysuckle drive turn off like I was standing still but I have decided a commute 3 days a week and after a few wEeks it should be a fairly easy run.

I'm not a commuter, but today I rode at the time of day that all the commuters are out. Riding on the path outside of my normal riding hours has introduced me to a completely new set of path users. Namely schoolkids, people commuting to work on their bikes, and people walking to work. I decided to take it easy through the Kedron Brook area, where the pedestrians were at their most numerous. I rode through Kalinga, then headed to Toombul, only to find the bike path has been blocked off for path works! I had no idea how to get where I wanted to go, but thankfully a kindly bike commuter let me follow him to find the other end of the path. Random Bike Commuter, I thank you.

The ride was made especially good for two reasons. 1: I got to see lots of unhappy, cranky, frustrated drivers stuck in traffic, trying to get to work. And for once, I wasn't one of them. And 2: I got to see lots of happy, smiling, not stuck in traffic bike commuters, all of them making better time than the car commuters. Oh, and also, I got to see a handful of cute chicks on hot bikes. :D

More than ever, I understand the attraction to commuting by bike. Perhaps one day I will live close enough to my place of work that it will be feasible. Until then, I'll continue reading this thread and envying you all :)

Great fresh ride in today (about 8 C when I set out) with a mild headwind all the way.

Had my new bib shorts on today which are 2% Carbon, this meant I easily passed all over riders wearing steel and aluminium shorts!

Cheers,

Gary

This morning's commute was not as enjoyable as usual. Gusty wind all the way around Olympic Park, Canada Bay and Iron Cove. Forecast is for more of the same if not worse for the journey home tonight.

On the upside, I passed a guy in a Ferrari on Victoria Rd! I must be getting stronger :D

Whatta way to drop the average.

Today, I am piking. Strong winds, rain, cold. Well, it was like that yesterday but less so. Doesn't stop me feeling like big girls blouse though.

Been feeling good as I'm four solid weeks into my commuting fitness return, after a couple of months off.

But last night I had to laugh - braked for a stupid driver who ran a red, looked at her to mouth some swearwords and saw she was chatting on her mobile phone. So I head on down the Epping Road cycleway, hoping for a friendly cyclist to complain to about drivers using mobile phones. And the next cyclist is riding along TEXTING, and almost rides into me

Only a small cup. I Bike/train/bike. I piked the first leg, riding the 1.3 km to NME rather than the 6.2 to FSY. Never woulda made it if I'd taken the long option.
As for the last km of Racecourse Rd before home, uphill into a half gale makes the quads scream like banshees.

Aw man! Why does life get in the way of having fun?

Was so looking forward to commuting with a 40km/h tailwind, but then SWMBO gets a temporary transfer to Epping, and it screws up the childcare/school schedule we've been using for the last 8 months.

No commutes at all this week. :x

Going to make up for it next week though and try to do 4 or 5 straight. That will equal 330 to 420km if I can manage it.

Next time, wifey better be more aware of my needs, rather than her career. :D

Kev.

I've heard no shrieks from cyclists behind me so I'll assume no at the moment!

Another cold and fresh one today! Slight headwind but a great ride.

Cheers,

Gary

My second commute today. Slight head wind and was a touch chilly when I left home. I went more a back street route today rather than staying on the highway the whole trip. Was a lIttle hillier and being my 2nd ride I was hurting again

2 cyclists passed me on the highway while I slowed to take a drink. Damn their fast and flew out of sight quick smart. I aim to at least up near The fitness level of those guys this morning

This morning was a interesting one.
Got cut off brutally buy a turning truck, but o.k.
Then a side street ,
The a car, yep,
Then the car not stopping.
Thinking here we go again.
So I take evasive action as usual .
wave my fist in the air as usual.
But then the car stops.
Driver opens up the window, i think yeah i can vent....
I shine my magicbright lights in his eyes, and say:
if this is not bright enough what else do you expect from me...
He was startled by the incicident and was very apologatic. (very rare)
I went on a little bit until i notice he started to get a bit agrevated...
So i asked why he didn't see me , he used as excuse that a yellow roadwork sign was blocking the vieuw.
I told him that he should have gotten to complete stop , not a rolling stop.
He apologized again and I went to work.

Rain hail of shine, I haven't missed a day of commuting to and from work for over a year. :D
Nice weather today, for this time of year and my speeds creeping back up because of it. :D

This morning's ride into the city was almost perfect. Sun shining, cool air, traffic ok and I felt good. Had a chat to a fellow cyclist, and all was good with the world. I can feel incremental improvement in my fitness already, and I've only been commuting for three weeks. I Feel like I've shed a couple of kilos too.
This evening after work, it's off to the pub. Wonder how I'll go riding home after that? Haven't ridden a pushbike drunk since high school.
