Ended up with just under 100kms for the day. Good to finish the week with a tail wind

Climbing up the last hill before work this morning and a car has come up from a side street... I am guessing but he looked right and the coast was clear so they has planted it ....of course they were in such a rush they didnt look straight ahead which just so happened to be where I was...fortunately he cut the corner short and I was wide enough to clear some upcoming parked cars that he hit me around the rear door section. He heard the thump and stopped and I was able to stay up again... so survived this months hit...8 days to go before a new month and the target sign comes alight again

Bit of a mixed bag today.

Before I even left I dropped my Fly 6 (version1) on the concrete with a sickening smack. It doesn't turn on now.

It was a beautiful day for a ride. :)

I stopped to help a bloke whose derailler hanger had broken. I carry a chain breaker in my tool kit, so I offered to turn his bike into a single speed. :) He was grateful because he still had a way to go, and appointments to keep. He said that he would help me out if I wanted to take kids to the cricket next season. He gave me his card and even I recognized his name as a former international cricketer. 8)

I hurried to work because I was late and discovered that instead of lunch I had a plum puree.

Cheers,

Cameron

I did my first commute ride into work today. After a bit of mucking around to get organised, the ride went smooth. Actually faster than my test rides. It was probably a bit cooler though so that helped.

I have to get panniers though as using a backpack was not comfortable.

Now I have to survive getting home later today. :)

cameron - kudos to you. i always offer assistance. it sometimes keeps the puncture fairy away
chrisR - welcome to commuting. before you consider panniers, have a look at the deuter back packs with the air comfort pro system. that was mesh is sitting on your back with a gap between that and your bag. allowing for a little bit of air flow.

+1 for the backpack. I've got an osprey escapist and it has all the right pockets, rain cover, pouch for a hydration bladder (great in bris this time of year) etc. Just don't try buying anything like that locally or you'll pay double compared to the likes of chainreaction.

I use a Deuter bag as well.... nice and comfortable... it is a pain when I have a big load and use a normal backpack but try not to do that to often

Thanks for the tip. I'll have a look into the backpacks as well. I'll make a separate thread if I have further questions.

I commute from the Mt Ommaney area to Milton at the moment. The office is changing to the CBD sometime this year, so I'll be riding in further along the riverside path. I get to use the western freeway bikepath as well and both are pretty good I think.

I made it back ok this afternoon in the heat although the butt was getting a bit sore near the finish. :) According to Strava it was a 21km ride home. It's a bit less in the morning as I take different routes to make it safer overall.

Going to take it easy over the next 2 days and try for another commute ride on Friday, assuming the weather is ok.

And to make my day, the rear wheel finally warped beyond safety....as in I have to release the brakes all of the way for it to spin a little  Oh well, at least I got full use out of it.

Quiet commute, surprisingly so. Plenty of security presence around here though, more Police than you've ever seen. Anyone would think there is a world leader nearby... ;) We have ABC24 here at the moment (eek!) plus all of the states Police force, just about. Helicopters overhead yesterday.

My legs felt pretty good this morning, quick but it felt effortless :) Forgot my gloves though, that's not good.
