Very humid in Melbourne today - I didn't ask for this, I live in Melbourne.

Very sweaty ride in and out.

First one for ages today. Only 6km but it feels like I've done 20. Rather out of form...

Yep - I got caught in it too. Did my best to dry everything for this morning, but my shoes were still damp. Yuk.

When I got home yesterday I had a mail delivery card letting me know that my new bike shoes are sitting nice and dry at the local post office. I could have really used them today.

I've been away from the bike commuting for a few years but started up again recently. I've been gradually building up to the full 23km each-way trip again by ride-train-ride commuting.

Two weeks ago, I got the 'bent out and started the full commute. Those 'bent legs are finally coming back. I've got another 13kg to lose before I reach my ideal weight so the hills are killing me (lost 7kg so far.)

Gave a bloke a good drag home into a headwind for 8km yesterday. :D

Cheers,
Graeme

I feel like a fraud now.

I posted the weather forecast so that people would know what a hard-core commuter I am and worship me as a result. The trouble is that I've only suffered light drizzle for a fraction of my 4 rides this week, and the weather is supposed to be getting better now.

At least my garage got flooded.

Cheers,

Cameron

commuted by red-eye flight QF401 for a day trip to Melbourne yesterday.

was astonished by the number of cycling commuters despite it being a wet, grey and miserable morning. dedicated cycling paths everywhere i could see. i believe the Victorians have it good.

Not really a commute, but tested out my Reid X1 in Melbourne city last night, from MCG to Docklands / Melbourne Star via Southbank / Crown promenade / Lorimer St, and back to the CBD via Collins St.

16km, 1hr 1min.

To tired to get up early for a long commute. Alarm went off, I turned it off. Showers forecast too.
Minor detours for a change, strong southerly change for a headwind for half of it. At least the predicted showers were not around.

fat and old wrote:Wet  . Nice though. Tried out a new rain jacket, it passed sorta. Then got a puncture half way in. I hate repairing them in the rain. The Veloflex Corsas are a gigantic fail for puncture resistance. Bought them by mistake pre christmas. They puncture easy, are squirelly and just feel weird. They lose air faster than anything else i've had too. Binning them tonight, if I can be arsed :?

Oh, and the council saw fit to be slashing the grass along the path, in the rain. Spat it out the side straight onto the path, covering the whole thing for about 800m. :x
Veloflex Corsas are what I'd consider for a race/weekend tyre. The weird feel is an interesting description.

The only time i've had a tyre feel anything like that was when I had 28mm tyres on 14mm rims running at less than ideal pressure on a tandem. A few more psi and they felt much better.

I'll take them and try to figure it out if the carcass hasn't been too damaged by the commute.

Cheers,

Cameron

Beautiful temp this morning, hardly any traffic on the road.
A couple of kangaroos out and about.
I saw them on the steep uphill rather than downhill luckily.
Dark most of the way in now in the mornings.
I've gone away from the dyno hub and lights and the bike feels so much livelier for it.
Guards are off too, they might go back on.
I need a light with better run time. The saferide 80 is great on high, not so good on low. High has a woeful runtime.
I'm thinking an exposure but bugger they are expensive. Don't like a separate battery.

Off to Moorabbin this morning, thinking this will hurt coming back. Oof.....,some stupid 50+ k headwind all the way. Struggled to control the bike at times. And it's 35 degrees when I get to Pt Melb. I think I went through 10 bottles. Back in Preston, 15 minutes later the skies open up, wind turns around and its 19 degrees. Gotta love Melbourne

Came across a towering intellect today - gerroff the road. I really should come up with a better stock response than go procreate you richard.

The funny part was he was stationary in traffic as I gently sailed past, never to see him again.

Its been raining all week here, but I have managed to stay dry until this morning... and to top it off I have a back strain which I have agitated more at this mornings core class... should know better to back it off... was a painful start to the commute being a steep uphill but ended up going straight to work.
Flying to Wellington tomorrow so will be lugging computer and crap home tonight and back Friday morning...that will be testing

after a near perfect commuter month, i'm raising the white flag tomorrow. current forecast is for around 150mm of rain. for those that don't know, cyclone debbie is now a tropical low and heading south. trying to pick a gap in the weather to not get drenched this afternoon.

Stop, go back. Point at him "Zero kms per hour". Point at yourself: "25kms per hour"

On a plane this morning for work.... Wellington airport was closed yesterday because of fog... we managed to land on the 2nd attempt and only 2 other planes at the airport... has cleared now so I can get home this arvo but hoping the rain has gone tomorrow so I can extend the commute... well drizzle compared to Brisbane
