Managed to get to work dry and then travel between campuses without rain. Not bad considering it rained while I was at the first campus. That headwind this arvo was tough going South along the beach on the way home though, wasn't a tail wind in the morning either.

This morning I was too slow getting everything together and ended up having to get the train (on the plus side, I got to watch an episode of Da Vinci's Demons - just have to make sure I get a seat at the end of the carriage where no-one inadvertently looks over my shoulder to see blood or people's bits)
That's the same thought I have about reading a romance book on PT. I was gobsmacked that people were actually reading 50 Shades of Grey on PT in full view when it was all the craze. People KNOW what's in that book, you know...

What's this? It's light when I leave work now??? I'm going to have to give up my vampire tendencies now it is getting brighter. :D

I did it. First time riding to work since April, my ears were a little cold to begin with but other than a bit of a headwind (which is hopefully still there this afternoon) it was a pleasant morning for a ride.

Under 90 minutes too which I'm happy with first time back.

Had bit of a torrid time of it yesterday arvo. Walked down to the bike cage, only to find my bike sitting forlornly on a flat front tyre.
Decide to push bike up to another bike cage one level up, because there's a floor pump there....only it wasn't. Ok, no worries, pull off wheel and tyre, check for foreign objects and extract some slivers of glass, fit new tube, tyre back onto rim. Resort to small hand pump and work up quite a sweat trying to achieve reasonable inflation and eventually set off.
Further along, I was menaced by a driver determined not to let me merge out of my disappearing bike lane into the regular lane, despite doing similar speeds and approaching a red light, and another 100m or so along a right turner coming out of a side street to my right swung too wide and nearly collected me in the bike lane.
Throw in some dozy peds and the M80 maggie not missing a trick, and my afternoon of incidents was complete .
The upside was that is was a dry afternoon with a decent tailwind. :)

Headwind this morning, missed the early rain, but paths and roads were still slippery and wet in places. No further problems on my commute into the CBD.

Blinding commute this morning, cool but not too cold, bright and sunny, light tailwind so I pushed on and recorded a huge number of PB's including average 35.2kph over the 21kms from Russell road to the south Perth detour. All solo as well, didn't catch a draught once, I did overtake a lot of people though. Think the legs will demand a more leisurely ride home.

Thought I had a magpie strike this morning (clatter of beak beside my right temple and that low whistle noise) but the bird that went past me was a Noisy Miner.

Do NMs defend territories like magpies or was the strike actually made by a magpie that I didn't see who was in turn being buzzed by the NM? All happened too fast for me to tell, but will keep an eye on the sky tomorrow.

Most types of birds defend there nests during nesting season.

Congrats on the return :D

90 minutes of cycle commuting in Canberra would see you circumnavigate the territory, would it not ?

Pretty close to it, I don't know there'd be many people with a longer commute here.

That happened to me once. I thought the clicking was my gears playing up until I saw the flash :-)

I moved house last Monday so now have a 6k commute instead of a 12k one. Bonus is I can ride in work clothes, the downside is I need to ride twice as often to get the same amount of exercise. Which would be fine except that I regularly need my car during the day for appointments. I will have managed 3 commutes this week, but unlikely to often manage more, and Tuesday only worked because I borrowed my manager' scar for a short trip in the middle of the day.

Speaking of Tuesday - I was cycling to work on Tuesday and there was a big green ute that was coming out of a driveway onto the road, and had already edged out over the bike lane. So I had to move right out into the lane of traffic to get past him. As I passed him I just pointed at his tyres in the bike lane, that's all I did. So when he took off he felt the need to roar past me and give me a blast on his horn. Because you know a middle aged woman on an urban bike is so threatening to a big tough guy in a ute.

Windy here today too. Blown all over the place on the way in, down to 15km/h for the headwind bit and a cruisy 30+ for the tailwind bit, almost off the track for the crosswind bits.

Wasn't looking forward to the trip home, the BOM site was showing just as much wind, however computer was wrong and the wind wasn't near as bad as expected, even though still windy.

Broke a rear NDS spoke at the end of my commute this morning. It might be a good time to try to fit my Kevlar replacement spoke at lunchtime.

Encountered one of the regular menaces 3-up on their scooter on the Darebin Creek Trail yesterday afternoon.
Gesticulating and shouting abuse as they went by.
Image

Further along, a walker with a dog on retractable lead, ped on the left, mutt on the right, lead stretched across the path. No amount of bell dinging got her attention as she was kitted out with headphones. A loud yell finally did the trick:
Image
She made quite a leap to the right when she turned and saw me.
The M80 maggie was on high alert as usual, and buzzed me a couple of times as I rode through its territory.

This morning was a toe-numbingly chilly, but dry and otherwise pleasant ride into the CBD.
