Just bought some Vredestein Fiammante Duocomps from Ribble (AT) $22.67 each in a 23c a that is all that will fit on the commuter due to guard clearance at the rear brake bridge.
They will cycle through the rear. The 25c durano plus on the front is staying put. It just keeps on keeping on :) .
I'm guessing but somewhere around 15k km on it now.

Got the fiammante on the rear now. Rides well having just taken a worn GP4000S off.
Feels lively and rolls well. Smaller than the conti too which is good as I don't have much guard clearance on the new commuter frame.

15%? Turn it up! Presuming that's on a scale of difficulty to 110% that everyone gives in a team effort :P

I'm now in a quandary.

I have been using Marathon Supreme for a few years, great tyre: quick, light, puncture resistant, handle well. But there's a problem, I run 700 x 28 and don't want to go to 700 x 32. But it seems that 700 x 28 are no longer made and/or available.

So, what now?

Anyone know of good alternatives to Marathon Supreme?

I was thinking of Schwalbe Durano (Lugano?) or possibly Continental Top Contact II. Anyone know how they compare? I have had good experience with Schwalbe and never run Continental.

Years ago I tried Vittoria Randonneur and they squared off very quickly, also not crazy about some of the other Marathon models as they are not as light and quick. Am willing to try 25mm width which I presume would be ok on a flat bar or the touring bike, but don't want to go wider than 28 which seems to be the best compromise for my riding. Not sure how much difference tyre weight makes but Marathon Supreme are very light, much lighter than Continental Top Contact II for example, but Durano seem pretty light going by the specs.

I commute 20KMs each way every day rain, hail or shine, and weigh just over 90Kg, which gives you some idea of the tyres' use.

Thanks

I use Schwalbe Durano Plus in 25c on my commuter. Very happy with them, fairly quick and very good puncture resistance. I reckon they are pretty much the perfect commuting tyre.

Not sure if it helps but I have the Marathon Supreme 700x32 and measured they are actually 700x30 on the rim.

Light? Quick? :)

On a more serious note, have you looked at the Gator skins? They should tick your boxes

I had Schwalbe Durano Plus 25C on my Fuji Track for commuting for a fair while as I wanted 'max puncture resistance'. I found them pretty sluggish, quite heavy and they tended to scrub out a bit on turns. They were also hard to get on even watching YouTube vids... I stuck with them though as I figured it just makes me work harder on a single speed anyway :)

But eventually I was copping pretty regular punctures as they seemed to be so spongy/thick/soft they'd actually grab up the debris rather than just resisting it so to speak. Cleaning them after each ride still didn't seem to help. Of course some of the flats I got would've happened to any tyre, but given they were still puncturing plus lower performance I decided to try something else.

My LBS recommended 25C Gatorskins and had them on the shelf when I dropped in so I have those now. I've probably only done a few hundred kms but they've been good so far. Hard enough to turn away lots of debris, and what does get stuck I clean off or pluck out at the end of my ride. I also found they felt much nicer under braking and certainly roll faster

Hmm brickbats and bouquets for the Durano. Maybe I'll give them a try and also try 25mm tyres (I assume these will at least fit the Pro-Lite Como Tandem wheels on the flat bar, a little less sure about the wheels which came with the Allegro, might need to look at the rim and see what is recommended).

I have a Marathon Supreme 32 on the back of one of my bikes and I do think it is too wide, probably just a perception issue but I do like narrow tyres.

Could try Gatorskins too, did like Continental tyres once on a car I had decades ago. Any opinions on Michelin bike tyres or any other brands like Maxxis?

I run the Durano's in a 28 and so far no issues aside they are PITA to get on. I have the reflective ones which I highly recommend if you ride in the dark.

Ok, still looking at tyres (why don't they just make the Marathon Supreme in 28 still??) and it gets quite confusing.

Firstly, folding or wire bead - what are the pros and cons?

Then there's the different models:
Durano come in Durano Road Tyre, Durano Plus, Durano Double Defence, Durano Performance - no idea what the differences are, double defence seem to have sidewall protection but the standard an plus models, what's the difference? Maybe the plus has better puncture protection (smart guard as opposed to race guard) - I think that might be it.
Gatorskins come in standard and hardshell, looks like the hardshell have seidewall protection.

Choice overload I think.
