Re: New commuter - what gear to buy for commutingSpend the money on puncture-resistant tyres, mudguards, a carry rack and some good panniers (or if you don't carry much a really good rack-top/trunk bag). Use a couple of different rear lights in case one gives up the ghost on a ride. 25km isn't too far to commute - it just depends on the sort of time it will take you. I'd say plan for a 90-minute ride, even if you can do it quicker.
