Here is my new commuter.
Sorry for the quality, I should have cleaned the glass on my phone before I took a photo.
It is an Aldi bike that has been added to so that it suits the commuting role better. It has a mismatched front wheel for the moment as I want to retain the dynohub. I think that I will probably rebuild the front wheel around an SP hub so that I can have matching rims.
The elevated rack mounts and longish chain stays give me better heel clearance than its predecessor. Since this photo I have lowered the bars and fitted my preferred B17N.
Cheers,
Cameron

The bike does everything that I ask of it as a commuter. The position I have at the moment is different to my race bike, but I don't have a problem with that. My reasoning is that my positioning priorities are different to suit the different purposes, so a shorter/higher front end makes a lot of sense for a commuter, (although it was a bit too much higher for my liking hence I replaced the stem with a longer one and lowered it.)
I am not expecting any drama with the frame. It is straight and solid. It handles predictably and whilst it takes a bit more rider input to effect a turn, I can always put the bike wherever I want on the road. It fits my requirements pretty well, and will do so even better once I get around to getting that dynohub, and I replace the cheap tyres.
Cheers,
Cameron

I'm using these two. The black/grey one is getting more commuting distance at the moment:
The second one has a -10° Pro stem on it at the moment. They are both near identical in setup, just that the green one is much lighter. I swap the Specialized saddle over to whichever one I'm riding. Because they are both identical, I just take the saddle and clamp off and swap, very simple.

I will eventually get another Specialized saddle - they are great. The Fizik is awful in comparison. It was by chance I got one of those Specialized Romin saddles, I should have got one years ago.ironhanglider wrote:Wouldn't it be even simpler to get another saddle?

I see where your heavy wheelset problem is.... you have some big concrete lugs attached to the rear wheelCXCommuter wrote: Ride is pretty good but dull due to heavy wheelset and tyres which will be replaced in the medium term.

I'm desperate to build a single speed MTB with discs and road bars, I looked everywhere to find something I could convert before I bought the OCR but didn't find anything.
