2016 Fuji Tread 1.3, Tiagra 10s with compact double, TRP Spyre cable discs. Need to flip the stem, then see if I need to perhaps go 10mm longer. Did come with a rack, but I don't carry a lot at the moment. Looking to fit my guards next week.

Hoping for maiden run Friday.

....and by late to mid Friday arvo you have it up on ebay as it clearly has no thru axles.....
( looks good, but if you intend to use it in the dirt don't flip and if you do go longer consider even more rise)

You saw the through axle thread 8) Thru axles are overkill for my use.

I'll match the previous cross bike fit, which was longer with more drop. Works well for me.

Nice bike, I was looking at a Fuji Tread when I bought my new commuter. I ended up with a Avanti Giro AR1 instead.
Both much the muchness really.

Yeah, remarkably similar. Surprised there's not more of them around. Never seen either of these models on the road.

They are at the lower end of the spectrum and not widely sold in stores like Trek or Giants.

For me it was a cheap commuter with discs and rack mounts with the ability to fit wide tyres if I want. Also, mine had the Tiagra 4700 groupset on it whereas others at a similar price point had the Claris or Sora groupset on them.

Having the 4700 on my previous steelie commuter, I knew it was plenty good for what I needed. I'd go so far as to say its just as good as the 5700 on my Shogun. Under the skin it probably is 5600/5700 tech. Now that Tiagra has the dual-hidden cables it's a much better option.

Hey great thread. Love seeing your commuting bikes.

Here is mine which was used for 20+years of commuting. Over that time I broke 3 racks, 3 seats, 3 sets of wheels, lights, and 1 derailleur. However the chainwheel, rear cluster and chain are all original. All steel, including the wheels.

Image

Have just recently replaced it, although I don't commute as often.

Fitted with all those things the road racer hate, fenders 0.7kg, pannier rack 1kg, kick stand 0.4kg, mirror ?kg and lock 1.8kg.

Bit of a change from your old Raleigh. Braking must have been a bit interesting in the rain with those steel rims.

I wonder if your new bike will last 20 years?

Yes the brakes are a huge, huge improvement. I live on a steep hill and with the Raleigh in the wet it barely stops and at times I had to supplement the braking by dragging my foot on the road.

The disc brakes are the most significant improvement over the old bike.

I believe commuting bikes have the hardest life, lots of shocks and vibration from curb hopping, bad roads or paths, in the rain washing off any oils, in my case little or no maintenance and being parked out in the weather. The rack mountings snapped from shock and vibration. The wheels had to be replaced because I had worn through the chrome and copper plate on the rims.

Looking at the previous posts I am a bit concerned with the broken aluminium frames others have posted so I am guessing the new one may not survive 20+ years of commuting, not that the rider will be any shape to be still commuting.

Why did you not replace the worn steel rims with aluminum rims?

Regardless of whether it was correct or not;

Wanted to keep a strong buckle free wheel. For curb hopping and the occasional ride home on a flat tyre. There has been times when I just wanted to get home and have ridden on a flat tyre and another time I ran over a piece steel strip that fully sliced the tyre and tube.
Cheap.
Keep original.
Didn't care about weight. Before LEDs I ran a gel lead acid battery and a 20W 12V halogen light which weighed a substantial amount but lasted over a week.

Okay so I don't have a life.
I looked at the first 10 pages photos and of the 25 bikes I could see (noting that 1 bike represents 4%).

32% had flat bars
68% had drop bars
44% had a rear rack
12% had a saddle bag
24% had disc brakes
80% had fenders
12% had a mirror
4% (or 1) was a fixie
4% (or 1) had a kickstand

Was bored and scrolling around thru old posts, and tripped over this. Brought back so many memories, a childhood friend had one of these (back in the late 70s) while I was riding around on a 10sp Repco. His was the exact same colour scheme but without racks etc. So what's the plan for the Raleigh ? Resto ?
Campagnolo for show, SunTour for go

Sadly the Raleigh is in storage under the house. It will come out on the odd occasion such as during the classic bicycle show or when the new bicycle breaks.

Aliexpress frame, alixexpress rims & sp dynamo I built up, aliexpress 'Aeroad' integrated hbar/stem.
Hydraulic Ultegra Di2 throughout, Pioneer PM, Tubeless 28's, with B&M dynamo lights.
This is the final version of many, many variants before it.

I used to be an avid mudguard user on previous bikes, but the fact is it rarely rains on my commute.
