Cross-posted from the general pictures thread, my new uber-commuter:

Image

Boardman pro CX from wiggle.

- Aluminium frame with carbon fork
- Avid BB7 disc brakes
- Conti 4 seasons 28c tyres
- SRAM Force groupo
- SKS chromoplastic mudguards (too big but I already had them)
- Rack and rack bag for clothes

All-up weight out of the box was 9.8kg. After the rack, bag, mudguards, lights, spare tube, patch kit and pump the weight ready to go is 12.5kg. Hopefully I'm able to make it up the hill of death on the way to work tomorrow!

Wow that looks pretty nice Andrew. Can I ask how much that set up cost?

Base bike was $1600, don't remember what the mudguards and rack etc cost because I've had them for a while now but perhaps $1850 all up with the tyres? Had to pay for shipping and customs from the UK too. I was considering the 'team' version which is the same frame, fork and wheels but with an Apex groupo (which I'm sure would have been fine) and BB5 brakes (which I'd heard bad things about) but in the end the BB7's and force groupo plus a 20% off deal at wiggle were too tempting.

Comes off on the outside occasionally, but only when I drop down to the smallest cog in a hurry. Not enough to make me look into to a fix.
The wheelset I built - Deep V's laced to circus monekys mtb hubs.

Mulger, it's a China jobby, an ICAN SP-AC024.

Yeh that RD cable is a bit long but I wanted to keep it long during 'break in', shifting is still sweet though, will get to it one day.

My 2010 Giant Seek 2 ... with the requisite commuter additions! Good enough to be a fun ride, not good enough to worry about commutes in the rain.

Can't beat black :)
I'd be wrapping some white reflective tape around those white areas.

This is my commuter, hastily built over a weekend with what I had available but so far it's been great. It's built from a 27" spaced Ricardo Viva Tange 900 frame, SKS Chromoplastics, Campagnolo Khamsin wheel and Veloce groupset. I had to use some Tektro R538 57mm brakes for reach which are on the way, and I'm changing the rear cassette for a 13-29.

Plans once I finish uni in a few weeks is to re coat the frame in a deep red, gold pin stripe the lugs, and build some new wheels with some silver Ambrosio 32/36 hole hubs and silver Mavic Open Sport eyeleted rims, maybe randoneur bars too.

picky i know, but your rear brake has jumped the fence ! :P

I know! the Campagnolo brakes wouldn't fit because the cable adjuster fouls the rack and I'm waiting for my 57mm Tektro's to get here. That's a stop gap .. a front brake on the rear .. it works :P

Wow there are some amazing bikes here. Might as well post my new(secondhand) bike which will be used as a commuter. My cash flow
at the moment is pretty tight so it was bargain basement or bust. I picked it up a couple of weeks ago for $100. Now I've read all about
Reid bikes here on this forum but I figured beggars can't be choosers. After a day full of adjusting, aligning and tightening it was all running
smooth. I've only put about 100kmon it so far, and it hasn't missed a beat, it's been smooth, quiet, it brakes ok but it's not amazing. It's a
bit heavy but coming from my last bike, a 16kg mountain anchor, 11kg is fine. I will be changing a couple of things as I go, but for now,
I'm content :)

Cell SS-300 (Mostly Tiagra w/ 105 RD, carbon forks)
Ribmo 32c tyres (80/100 PSI)
Pro Bar Ends
AyUps, Radbot 1000, Smart front/rear
M-520 SPDs (replaced A-530's that were on for 5 weeks)
Deuter rack pack panniers (ortlieb connectors)
SKS P45 Chromoplastics (with nylon-coated u-clips on front forks)
Aerowedge (with spare tube, patches, tyre levers, CO2)

Accessories have cost more than the bike...

Crawf you're a very bad man! You build some great looking bikes. After not pulling the trigger on the custom Ti bike / frame you were selling I've been thinking long and hard about building up a disc drop bar commute - and I think I've found the template.

I did a quick search for that frame and got some prices, and more importantly approval from the finance department! Though it will require me to go N-1 but that's OK as it will replace 2 bikes, one of which hasn't been ridden in quite some time.

Did you get the frame from Alibaba? That's what came up when I searched for ICAN SP-AC024 and they were very quick with a reply regarding pricing and geometry. I'd like to ask you a few more questions regarding the build & components if you don't mind but I'll do it via PM is that's OK?
