New flat bar oppy dedicated commuter

This is the cheapest new bike I have bought and quite happy with it after one 40km round trip commute.

RRP is 849 but since the new paint job '11 bikes are out from malvern star I got it for 579. Full 2300 shimano running gear.

Very buzzy on course bitchumen even with 28c tyres. Seat is rock hard.
Paint looks great and I love the red anodised spoke nipples and screws.

The bar ends are very comfy with thumb resting on the top like their designed for.

nice!

I got an 2010 Oppy A2 (drop bars) for commuting last October and have been loving it. I've racked up around 5000 km since then and I'm just about to replace the bracke pads. I find the seat OK, but I do wear knicks with padding. I've had no problems with the frame or the shimano components.

I had only two problems, both wheel-ralated:

Firstly, I had "hutchinson Nitro" tyres and was getting punctures very often. If this is a problem, consider getting new tyres (I got some gatorskins which are doing fine, dunno what to get in 28c).

I had a little trouble with those fancy red nipples - a number of them sheared and I had the wheels re-threaded with new nipples (under warranty at the LBS). You'll know if this is a problem for you or not!

are your nipples still red?

My tyres are hutchisons flash. Not that flash apparently. I have ordered some maxxis Detonators in 28c to replace these and will most likely run a tyre liner on the rear also.

I was considering the A2 road drop but the shifters in 2300 spec sounded a little compromised and they were $799 at the cheapest.

Added these this afternoon and a mini pump.

So annoyed with the rear lower bolt threads for the rack, started screwing them in on both sides and the black paint, which was in the thread, cracked and split off from a large area. This has never happened to me before installing baby seats etc on mtbs.

Nope, the LBS replaced them with standard silver nipples.
