... tiny soft bodied flies that hang around in great clouds on bike paths in the evenings and mornings and stick to your sweaty face and eyeballs?

ARRGH They drive me NUTS.

Must get some clear (un)sunnies before I go blind.

Copped a mouthful of them on my ride this morning. Ended up having to wipe my tongue with my jersey sleeve. Yuk.

Well I wish she'd keep them locked up. I can't stand peoples who let their pets roam :P

I don't think so. Midges are a bit like tiny mozzies. These are more like fruit flies - soft and slow and gormless and utterly devoid of defences except for their willingness to suicide in your eyes and mouth and lungs. Who would think that such an innocuous creature could be such pain in the bum.

I was just reading about caffeine. It turns out that not only is it the normal exudate of cyclists but it is a natural insecticide. Maybe its just cyclists that are the unwitting bane of these creatures. We blunder into these clouds of innocent fun loving flying creatures and send them to their deaths but do we sympathise with them? No. We curse them like psychopaths. Well I only have so much empathy to share around and I don't have any for these scum. More caffeine. Tons of it. And pyrethrums. And flame throwers. What ever it takes.

My dork factor is this big but at least I don't have to pick the grit out of my teeth after I commute home.
