I like riding in the rain because.......Not that it is raining in Brisbane but why not talk about it.
......as a kid mum always called me inside, so now riding in the rain is a small act of defiance. ......I ride SS so I do not cringe at the thought of hundreds of $$$ of drive train getting trashed. ......motor vehicle drivers get nervous and tend to slower and are more cautious making cycling a little safer. ......its just fun splashing through puddles on your bike. ......drivers think you're weird as you ride along with a huge smile on our face. Life is not about waiting for the rain to pass.....it's about learning to dance (or ride) in the rain.

Re: I like riding in the rain because.......why not start a thread of "why i hate riding in the rain"
i believe you will have more takers!!! Oppy Le Mauco - Dura Ace (wet weather bike)

Re: I like riding in the rain because.......Ha! Valiant attempt at positivity!
I would be hard pressed to say I like riding in the rain. However... I don't mind riding in the rain when... ... it starts raining after I've started riding. I can't bring up the motivation to head out into the rain when I'm nice and dry. ... it's summer and the rain is not actually cold. ... when I get to work drenched from head to toe, and others are complaining about getting rained on just getting off the bus. I can think HTFU people! (maybe slightly contrary to point 1 ... once it starts raining in Sydney - traffic comes to a standstill, making riding a bike that much more rewarding
Re: I like riding in the rain because.......... My wifes in the house whinging
I like riding in the rain because.......Rain? What's that? We don't have this concept of "rain" in Perth.

Re: I like riding in the rain because.......if I hated riding in the rain I would, but fortunately here in Brisbane when it rains it doesn't get really cold and I enjoy it for the reasons noted. Life is not about waiting for the rain to pass.....it's about learning to dance (or ride) in the rain.

I like riding in the rain because.......Strangely.. I feel really manly and fit looking at my soggy frame
Once you can climb hills on a bike it's all downhill.
Hopefully I'll know what that's like..... one day. ![]()
Re: I like riding in the rain because.......
That's the exact reason why the minority of rain ride lovers need these threads to mend their psychiatric complexes. They are not normal! Bianchi, Ridley, Montague, GT, Garmin and All things Apple
Re: I like riding in the rain because..........I can test my rainproof gear.
...I've been out on a really long ride, hot and sweaty on a humid day, and the heavens open to cool me down. Aside from that, not too many positives of riding in the rain for me. And when it's dark and raining then doubly more negative for me. Amateur oenologist and green-friendly commuter.
Re: I like riding in the rain because...........I get further ahead on bike journal. I promise that I am not competitive at all. Not for a moment!
Other than that and apart from wet socks, I'm not sitting in a stinking train carriage/bus with all the happy shiny people. The problem this has created is that when I have to go to meetings in other buildings, and it's raining, I don't bother with an umbrella and turn up wet. Strange looks. Need to work on that one.
Re: I like riding in the rain because.........because my daily ride is a roadie with mudguards, I have just enough wet weather gear and it still beats sitting in traffic. It's still fun, unless you crash.

Re: I like riding in the rain because.......I like riding in the rain because... I love the hyperspace effect of raindrops in me helmetlight at night, the zizz of tyres on wet tarmac, the WT? looks you get from other peoples as I splash by.
I hate riding in the rain because... Too many other road users don't change their behaviour to compensate for the changed conditions. ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: I like riding in the rain because..........if I were driving in my car, my commute would take twice as long and being inside the sardine can as I drive over potholes and flooded roads would just heighten my stress levels.

Re: I like riding in the rain because.......This will sound a bit wanky.. but I like riding in the rain because it puts me more in touch with nature. There, I said it.
I really enjoy summer rain. I love how it can turn a horridly humid ride into a cool, refreshing experience. Winter rain, on the other hand.... well, at least it still puts me in touch with nature. Re: I like riding in the rain because.......
Channelling the inner hippie hey Max Another think I like about riding in the rain is it sparks the odd interesting conversation at work. It usually begins with something like "You rode to work in THAT weather?" It's then followed by headshakes and gestures indicating they think I must be nucking futs. ![]()
Re: I like riding in the rain because.......
Only another cyclist understands why another cyclist rides in the rain. I'll add another to my list: ......its liberating. Life is not about waiting for the rain to pass.....it's about learning to dance (or ride) in the rain.

Re: I like riding in the rain because.......
There's a fine line between bravery and foolishness and I'd like to think cyclists riding in the rain tend to fall on the former side Amateur oenologist and green-friendly commuter.
Re: I like riding in the rain because.......personally I try not to fall. Life is not about waiting for the rain to pass.....it's about learning to dance (or ride) in the rain.

You must. If you have mudguards. ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: I like riding in the rain because..........makes my bike look togh all covered in mud.

Re: I like riding in the rain because.......It's A Novelty..
It did rain here a few weeks ago, and I arrived at work with a thoroughly wet arse ! - half an hour later and me and everything else were bone dry again. Eric. Newer does not automatically mean betterer.
Re: I like riding in the rain because.......... it feels like I'm taking on nature at its worst and winning, like a Bear Grylls commuting to his 9-to-5 job.
If I can bicycle, I bicycle David Attenborough
Re: I like riding in the rain because.......If it were like bear Grylls, you would have to make your bike out of paper clips, staples and recycled paper. You should make sure to eat some raw magpies on the way home and drink water from the drain after filtering it through your jersey.
Re: I like riding in the rain because.......... I like gears that change all by themselves due to grit in the cable housing
... I like not being able to see a darn thing because of glasses that fog up whenever I stop at the traffic lights ... I like tools that don't adjust their driving to the conditions ...
