Nice to the Sydney Marxist Herald encouraging people NOT to ride...

I think I ended up with 3 whole registered users for the UNE - one of 'em was me. Tiny place with low traffic and few impediments to cycling, lots of people with bikes, nobody terribly interested in it. Commuting is apparently only for nutters and the poverty/license impaired. I give up.
but really, that's rubbish. We get none of it because the choices are illusory.

I know what you mean, I've put up the posters you gave me and spread the word but most seem happy just riding their normal route at the normal time. What's worse is a few days ago I completely messed up my illiotibial bands so I can't even walk properly, so I'll send my apologies for if I don't make it on my bike tomorrow...drubie wrote:I've been putting up posters, calling local sponsors for a breakfast etc. here and got absolutely bloody nowhere.

tested out the bicycle route too, as my previous rides had been super early and id just gone straight down the main road.
im quite suprised my shirt isnt too scrunched from being shoved in my backpack - it actually looks better than when the ironing lady does it!
now at least i can leave my shower stuff at work so i wont have to carry as much tomorrow

I think people are just too lazy. I parked yesterday on level 3 of the car park, the exit walkway is on level 2. Yet everyone was waiting for the lift instead of waling 1 level of stairs.drubie wrote:Commuting is apparently only for nutters and the poverty/license impaired. I give up.

My favourite thing was my wife coming in with me (her third time) and actually enjoying it! Best comment - "that wasn't hard at all".
Really enjoyed seeing all types (bikes and people) at Hyde park. Thanks to Bakers Delight for the breakkie snacks.

Work organised a breakfast, and escort vehicle for the last few km's of shonky B-double laden road. About
half the peeps who had signed up for the Ride To Work pulled out at the last minute. So drubie, you're not
alone in poor hit rates with recruiting converts.
Sunshine was brilliant, even if 8 degrees at 6 am wasn't real warm. Was surprised that we passed only
4 other riders over 40 km (2 women, 2 guys). Possibly starting too early for most or maybe it's just
because we were riding away from the CBD and into the back-blocks of Sydney.
Cheers

No brekkie for me either, I start at 7am so they all start a bit late for me.
