Same situation as me - keeping up motivation in a headwind on the way home, knowing there are some tough hills yet to come, that's the hard part. I've put on a new cycle computer because i tend to work out a bit harder if I have some metrics to work against. Shaved 10 minutes off my ride the other day after trying to increase my average speed :)

7500 is my target... - hoping I can make that. I don't think I can sustain riding every day of the week.
But I can say I held first place for a few days :-D
Probably will not place as well this year. From mid-October I'll be driving to work because I will have to take my son to childcare the majority of the time. Then again, as my wife is at home looking after him until then I will probably not take the (one and only) car at all until then, there are going to be no car required baby related medical apts I need to go to or a month off/parental leave so hmmm... not out of the realms of possibility I could make a similar commute distance this year despite missing 2.5 months or so.

Good luck to gretaboy and AdamLeMang doing 40-45km each way commutes. Looking at greatboy's stats it looks as if I have twice the climbing over 3/5 the distance, but even so serious respect if you can keep it up day in day out.

Headwinds suck! This time of year is sooo annoying if you live east and work west -> headwinds in both directions.

Tell me about it. In some places (Anzac bridge anyone ?) coming back from the city, wind gusts are not fun at all.

Then, once I get to a point of actually getting tired (around Bexley), the wind picks up...

Well, I have enjoyed being first for a couple of days...now back to the pack I go.

Will be lucky to get 2-4 rides in next week and then on holidays for 2 1/2 weeks. I am enjoying being part of the challenge as it is forcing me to ride on the days where I am umming and rrrrring due to tiredness/soreness.

One of my goals is to drop under 100kg and the bike riding has already helped me drop 10 kilos or so already. So hopefully when I get back from my holidays and start commuting again on a regular basis I will be able to achieve this particular goal.

so that will leave Kenzo leading, unless I can get my back sorted out so I can do my longer commute in...

Top stuff! A friend of mine is just starting to MTB again after blowing out to 150kg, he's down to 130kg after four months.. still smiling.
Have a great holiday.

JasonC - noticed you squeezed into third today by 0.01 kilometres... :)
EDIT - Simonn just entered his ride pushing you back to fourth.

Hahaha! Nah, don't do that, Simon's commute is 24km, yours is about 21, commute over the GoBetween then back over Vic Bridges and back track the Bicentennial to your normal exit.
Or just wait for his car-bound Childcare duties to kick in

Well, I've already been slack - got a lift home with the wife after a post-work beer, then saw the weather was overcast this morning and decided not to ride. I'm not very happy with myself, but am getting myself all motivated for next week and will even ride in the rain if I have to, just to get some decent kms up on the board.

LTRs first ride is >60km... and an avg of more than 34km/h!
You guys must have some nice open roads! Every time I get to >30km/h, I hit an intersection or red light or stop sign...
Then there are slower riders in front, pedestrians.. dammit! (lol).

every time i hit 30 the road changes direction and i have to go up a hill :D

EDIT: LTR is just letting us know he's in the game. At that pace he'll take the lead before australia day.

Currently at #6. No way in hell I'll be able to beat those 4 on the top even if I start commuting 5 days a week, which is 50km return.

I got what I assume is my PB yesterday on the ride in to work. I assume it's my PB because I never really take note of the exact time. I think it was about 2 minutes better. I'm off the bike today and will be off it tomorrow as well, so I may have to extend the commute on Friday to ride off the chips and soft drink I am consuming now.
