Just wondering how early you guys / girls head off on your commute in the mornings ? I start work at 6:30 am so usually need to leave at 5:40 - 5:45 to ride the 10km to work and allow some time to change clothes and cool down. Usually I only see a maybe 3 cyclists on my route with most of them heading to the city or train station while I'm heading in the other direction.

I have a flexible start time and a 30k ride. I like to leave by 6.30 so it still feels a bit like early morning, and I can be at my desk around 8. Didn't work out this morning though - too much procrastinating over breakfast.

I work shift work, so some days i might be on the road at 1am or other days later. Some shifts i am riding to work in the afternoon. So for me depending on what shift can be any hour of the day or night.

I am working early starts/early finishes at the moment, so I am leaving home at 5:45am to be in the office at 7am. My commute is 26km each way. I see a couple of other cyclists on route, but I ususally see no other cyclists until I am at least half way to work!

6am on my commute for the early starts I do...it means little traffic, less buses in the bus lane to the city so i can sit in it most of the way in for a very quick ride in. on the ride home i wouldn't dare take military road back to manly ( side streets for me! ).

I aim to leave at 5:45. Sometimes it's earlier, rarely later. In Brissy that means I don't need to use my lights til about april or may

I try to start before 6am. That way, there are still not too many motorists trying to get in or out of their cars by the time I get to Inner West.

It depends on the day and how early I want to be (or if I want to ride a little extra)... I start work at 8:30am so I can latest I can leave is 7:50am. Only take me 20 odd minutes to get to work, but then I like to have a shower and cool down etc.

4.30 am to allow for things to go wrong, if they don’t (touch wood) then I get plenty of time to cool down and eat breaky.

I start at 5.30am, my ride takes about 15 min give or take. But there’s also time to be added to get changed and to lock up my bike.

Gym mornings kick off at 6am for the 18km ride to gym. Normal no gym morning can leave as late as 6:45am.

Wednesdays will be crazy day, kick off at 5:1o or 5:15 to get to ride start point, cycle into city, out to Bondi and then back to city and the dreaded work station.

The government should just pay us to cycle around town looking hot.

Interesting how the big commuters are leaving well before sparrow's fart... I leave around 7:30-45 for a 8:50 start, 20 clicks in. Mainly to ensure I've got time for a rinse, I seem to get in within 50 minutes most days.

Geez you lot must all be morning people.

I start at 9 so leave around 8 to 8.10 and get to work pretty much on time. I'm crap in the mornings so a ride in is a good idea. That said I normally go to bed about 12.30-1am.

I usually leave anytime between 6 and 7. It depends on what time I go to bed, and how many times I hit the snooze button in the morning. I don't start until 9 but if I leave any later than 7 I risk missing out on a spot in the bike locker down stairs. I've been leaving closer to 7 lately as I ease my way back into commuting but this morning there were only a few spots left.

Not this little black duck.

When driving in, I always leave before 6:45 to miss traffic (which isn't really that early).

Cycling is more traffic agnostic, so I can sleep in (no specific requirement to be at work by a time) and don't leave till ~7:30 or later (depending on when the youngest pushes me out of bed for her breakfast)

Having said that, I did have to come in early the other day; left at 5:40 and the ride in was bliss! Very little traffic, so I took all the main roads and cut 20min out of my 25k ride in!

I leave at 4-45am (no a little dark, no DLS) to fit in a 2km sea-swim on the way :D . Get to work just after 7am. Try to leave work by 3-30pm to miss the 5pm traffic. Home brew about 5-30pm!

Was interested in your comment as you must assume all commuters work in offices ! 9-5 !
