Homebush -> Redfern?

Hi,

A friend has talked me in to riding in to work with him. That will get me as far as Homebush, but from there I want to try riding on to Redfern.

Is it best to do something like these which seem avoid Parramatta Rd?

I've used the first route between Homebush and Iron Cove on a weekend, Gipps St / Queens Road is pretty busy then, not sure what its like early morning. There is shoulder to ride on in some parts. I'm not sure the best way to get from Iron cove to Redfern. I would be tempted to ride down Hawthorne parade, along the canal (there is bikeway the whole way) until you hit Railway Terrace and follow this route from there:

Know the area well and I'd strongly suggest that you should go with the second option. The Queens Rd is not bike friendly and can be outright dangerous. Avoid unless you are seeking punishment!

Specifically on the second option: There's some room to play in the Concord section with lots of close by alternate routes. All residentially safe. In Annandale I'd suggest that you should ride through Booth St and cut through Camperdown and USYD to get to Redfern. There's no need to cut across to Newtown where traffic is heavier.
