Beating the system - the cycling commuting section

First of all, sorry that I have created another topic.
I'm looking at a new wheel set that will cost me 1.1k
Now I'm planning to use these wheels daily and sell my current ones. However I plan to commute with them.
I want to know those ppl who have nice expensive wheesl. Do you have a way to keep them as mint as possible ie. try to ride on smooth road without much stones and chops or branches, or you just ride the damn bike and enjoy the ride. Or only use them as weekend wheels?
I like to keep my bike and parts clean and mint. But I just can't see if you're going to use the thing daily it will eventually get ware and tear ....

Most people have expensive wheels for weekend rides. And stronger 'work wheels', for commuting . The only way to keep your wheels in mint condition is by ' not using them' If you use them, they wont stay in mint condition... So, its going to be one or the other ,

Is it worth getting a new set of cheap heels?
Then again you need a second set of cassett ? Or just use the existing one?

I find that riding on them with tyres installed prevents lots of scratching.
Seriously though, what sort of scratches are you worried about? The wheels on my commuter have done 8,400km and there aren't any scratches on them. Plenty of dust & dirt, but no scratches. I don't go out of my way to prevent scratching, either. I routinely roll over twigs, gumnuts, gravel, etc.
Just use them.

Maybe you haven’t bought yourself a very nice pair of wheels rather you’ve bought yourself an artefact? Just put ‘em up in pride of place on a wall in your living room and get yourself a pair of wheels you’ll use

My wheels are in pretty good condition. No scratches but just road grim and some black flicked off from the drive train. A quick wipe down every week keeps it fair clean until the big wash day. Otherwise it's hard to scratch wheels unless one goes off-road.

So where will the bike be parked at the end of the commute ? If it's leant against anything, or, lord forbid, chained to a post etc.,. the wheels and frame will get scratched. If not by you, by others passing by or chaining their bikes to it etc.,.
It's a hard choice: scratches or a nicked bike.
