What is the best booty you have found on your commute

Postby simmo71 » Sat Apr 07, 2012 10:21 am

Hi all.
Just wondering what are the best booty items that you have found or lost on the road during your commute?

Over the years I have collected a lot of useful stuff from the bike lanes on my commute. I consider the booty as a reward or compensation for having to put up with all the broken glass and debris in the bike lanes on a daily basis.

-Screwdrivers and pliers a plenty.
-New rubber mallet in wrapper.
-Electricians "snake" & 1200mm long drill bit & conduit. Made a difficult ride home!
-Half a bike tail light! the working half now jury rigged for my backpack.
-"L" and "P" plates, enough to cover a fridge.
-CD that still worked, and I liked the music more than the last owner.
and numerous other items that were not significant enough to remember.

I would love to hear what other items commuters are finding.

I have seen similar items to you but most often on a commute I leave them where they lay as they are not worth anything to me or are too large to carry home. When touring I generally find spanners, and other tools which I do pick up. Not good for keeping weight low though!! The most recent find has been a near new high visibility shirt. I gave it a wash and now use as a bike shirt.

I found a wallet sans cash in the early hours of the morning (it was quite dark). I handed it in to the Police that afternoon with the Police making racist jokes about the owner and jokes at my expense

I felt a bit funny handing in a wallet without any cash though.

a few iphones, a passport, a couple of wallets....

stuff I've actually kept though - just a few pliers and random tools. Nothing too exciting really.

4 adult sex toys all the same type, 1 purple, 1 green, 1 pink and 1 black all placed in the gutter about 5m apart standing up right wobbling in the wind. This followed a playboy a picture and an un-named extreme S&M mag. All very fun at 7am wake up ride in the hills.

I have literally only ever found ONE item: a Campagnolo bolt, and even then it was only the threaded portion (probably a seat post binder bolt, too long for a chainring bolt). Maybe I dont look around enough??

I love commuting on the bike when the vergeside collections are on .. being on the bike you see things a bit more easily. I found a nice Kuhawara frame and fork on the ride home one day. Made for a tricky ride home up hill with a frame slung over one shoulder.. luckily I got a puncture(!) and used the holed inner tube to cushion my shoulder.

I was hoping someone was going to post about finding a small shifter on their commute - cause I lost one on Tuesday night. I know where it jumped off as I heard the distinctive tinkle of metal on tarmac, but despite a search I was unable to find it.

As I have not found any treasure on my commute, my tally sits in the negative

Sorry to disappoint you, I guarantee if I put up a thread about good looking rear ends belonging to other riders that I will make the subject line VERY clear!! :D Now how do I go about that one without offending anyone? That would restart the debate about cyclists having to pass a test and meeting certain physical requirements before being allowed to wear lycra!!

I thought that someone out there must have found something on the road really good that was worth mentioning. Keep your eyes peeled everyone, especially if you commute in the dark!

The best thing that I’ve ever found on a commute was a set of high-end earphones. They gave me sterling service for ages. Also found a rather nice 6 inch metal ruler plus lots and lots of glass fragments and several really short lengths of wire.
It would not be at all strange if history came to the conclusion that the perfection of the bicycle was the greatest achievement of the nineteenth century.

Not actually booty but I once found around 50 damp unopened envelopes and later that day returned them to the Post Office.

If you can't explain it simply, then you don't understand it well enough.

A real fancy camera..took it to the cops..after spending ages convincing them I hadn't stolen it...turns out it was stolen not lost..unfortunately I didn't get it back as unclaimed property...owners claimed it. Damn my honesty.
