Yep. A seat post rack mount has two drawbacks. The first is weight capacity but that's not that big a deal. The second is more significant and it will bother some more than others - you may find that your inner thighs make contact with the clamp on the seat post. It does depend on the frame geometry and your fit into it but it can be an issue...so try before you buy.

Couldn't be happier, absolutely perfect for a daily commuter. The only thing I'd replace is the BB5s with some BB7s, mainly because the BB7 pads last so much longer. I've put about 1000km on mine in the past two months, and I'm pretty sure a couple of the pads are already close to needing replacement.

I still can't get over how good disc brakes are on an all weather commuter.

Yeah. My Boardman has BB5s. I had to replace the front pads after ~1500km. I bought and replaced the front with some of these. See this article on disc brake compounds.

They lasted ~4000km, including two races with the mud river in the photo earlier in the thread and quite a few commutes in very heavy rain, perhaps the heaviest rain I have ridden in ever. Make A LOT of noise in the wet, but that is not such a bad thing .

You can adjust the outside pad using cable tension pretty effectively (if you did not already know that).

Rear seems to be going ok still, but not as much stopping power as front.

I have 7000kms on my front bb5s and the rear lasted 4000. Front is due replacemant now.

A lot longer than I thought they would last.

That is outstanding. My first set of BB7 pads lasted a little over 3,500km. When I measured them they were well under the 3mm thickness (including the backing plate) suggested for replacement. In fact, the pad material was almost at the same thickness as the spring clip, so I was not far off scraping the spring clip on the disc rotor.

I tried some cheap(er) Non-Avid pads as a replacement, but they were not a very snug fit in the calipers and would not sit flat against the pistons. That meant they kept rubbing on the disc rotor and it drove me crazy. I bought some genuine BB7 pads and they fitted perfectly. I'll see how these go. Someone told me that the first set of pads you use on new disc rotors will not last very long, but after that they should wear substantially longer.

Well has taken a while but i think tomorrow i will be picking this up to use as a commuter.

Down side is no rackmounts but i can get away with a seatpost and staying under 9kg.
Also looks like a lot of fun for pottering around trails on weekends.
