Commuting from Rockdale to Eveleigh, NSW

I have done a lot of commuting in Melbourne (I usually prefer riding on road, e.g. Ballarat Rd./Western Hwy.), but I'm new to Sydney.

I'd like any tips you can offer on the differences between riding in Sydney versus Melbourne (e.g. important road rule differences, attitudes of road users etc.)

Also, any particular tips on good routes from/to Rockdale to/from Eveleigh (Redfern) would also be appreciated. The Princes Hwy. strikes me as a touch hairy ... does anyone here ride that road regularly?

Welcome to Sydney. I live at Tempe which is part way and I commute to different locations on different days. Have a look at the following commutes;

Tempe - Rockdale As you can see I rode on the princess HWY, but there's a bike path that runs from the fishing club (Bestic Street) thru to Tempe Reserve if you want an alternative. Combine that with a bit of foot path to get to Unwins Bridge Road

Tempe - North Sydney The trick with this route is the way picked thru Erskineville, some of which is one way streets in the wrong direction, so will need to ride on the footpath. Turn right at Erskineville Rd and left over the railway tracks.
