Recommend me a podcast

Getting back into cycle commuting after far too long being lazy (and discovering motorbikes).

The biggest disincentive for me is boredom. I usually listen to music but bored of my meagre collection that's suitable for riding to, so have been having a look at podcasts for the first time ever. Anyone got any recommendations, might as well try and soak up something useful/interesting/funny for an hour and a half a day whilst cycling.

My top five;
The Science Show
The Moth
This American Life
All Songs Considered
SALT - Seminars About Long Term Thinking

I find the spoken word ones fine on the bike. I use a mono earbud, one that takes both channels into one, and unplug if things are busy on the street.

Recently discovered www.npr.org. It's nice when you find decent stuff coming out of the US for a change. Their podcast directory: here

And for a different perspective on world events : www.aljazeera.com podcasts here

The original "Aunty" www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts

I don't really use podcasts myself, but I have various feeds of the above sites in my RSS Feed Reader for an ever reliable means of distraction ;) If I ever was forced to commute by car or public transport with regularity i think I'd take refuge in podcasts however.

My picks would be...

This American Life
How Stuff Works
Ricky Gervais Show

TED talks are also a good alternative, although prob not long enough for a decent ride.

Fair call.

For me, podcasts and audiobooks don't seem to interfere with hearing traffic quite the way music does.

My faves are:

Hamish and Andy
The Economist
How Stuff Works
Dr Karl's JJJ Science segment
Zero G (community radio station 3RRR science fiction show)

Yeah, it should be called An Idiot With A Heart of Gold Abroad. Karl's pretty easy to like.
