High tensions on the Main Yarra Trail

Postby nezumi » Wed Sep 25, 2013 7:55 pm

I witnessed a disturbing incident on the Main Yarra Trail today.

I was waiting at the pipe bridge at Fairfield Boathouse since there were a few people coming the other way, including another cyclist on a flatbar.

The guy behind me decided he didn't want to wait and proceeded to enter the bridge, nearly colliding with Flat Bar Rider.

Flat Bar Rider (FBR): "Can't you wait? That guy is showing manners (gesturing to me), why can't you?"
Impatient Rider (IR): "You should *expletive* wait for me!" *grabs FBR's glasses and throws them over the bridge, then races off*

I attempted to ride after IR to demand a name/number/address, but he was far faster than I.

Disturbingly, IR had a GoPro mounted on his handlebars, so is an experienced/regular commuter.

He was wearing a light blue/sky blue jersey and riding a (black?) drop bar bike.

pretty shocking - I wouldn't even be able to walk home safely without my glasses - good for giving chase
by the way I regularly ride over the pipebridge around 9am on a black cx, sometimes in a blue pearl izumi top but no gopro and am slow and way too polite

Pretty sure the top was a Bupa one of some form or another. The guy definately had rider power, but he also thought he had a right to the path over everyone else.

I too have seen the odd pumped up loser acting aggro on the pipe bridge. By the way they behave you'd think that they get a win bonus for crossing the bridge in record time. Losers.

Having said that the vast majority of people are courteous and given the narrowness of the bridge, are pretty patient with other cyclists and most importantly, the peds meandering across.
