(NSW) Route advice - Commute from Anzac Bridge to Randwick

Hi everyone

Part of my commute takes me from Anzac Bridge to Anzac Parade near Centennial Park.

The route I have been taking for the past couple of months has been down Darling Drive, then up past Central then Devonshire Street

This bit however I have never liked as the bit outside central is prone to traffic jams at the lights and so takes quite a while (+ the turnoff to Elizabeth takes some care - I tend to stop at the traffic island and wait till all is clear before getting on the bus lane).

Hence - does anyone have recommendations on a better route I can take? Many thanks in advance!

could go up king street to the end, around hyde park, oxford st then onto anzac parade. maybe 40% of that is on the separated cycle ways. apart from the annoying traffic light sequencing on king st, that route flows nicely after you cross george st.

Thanks for the suggestion - may give that a go although may do so outside peak hour (as going up King in peak does not sound that attractive? ;) )

My work is off the top of King St so one of my usual routes involves riding up King St - it is actually not too bad in peak hour, the traffic is heavy enough to be travelling slowly but not stationary, something like 20-40 km/h. Outside peak hour, cars will be travelling 60 km/h - some faster.

Anyhow, these days I take a different route, primarily because I don't like Pyrmont Bridge & the narrow path alongside the Western Distributor. Instead I ride along Darling Drive, Goulburn St & then north along College St. It adds about 1 km to my commute, but as I am travelling at a greater speed & the light sequences are much improved, it only adds about a minute to my travel. The only hassle is you need to cross Harbour St to get onto Goulburn. The legal way to do this is to dismount, walk across at the lights, jump back on & ride away.

What might work for you is something like this

Thanks for the comments and suggestion. That alternate rout looks interesting especially on the return trip will give that a try 8)
