I spent the last two days busting my a$$ to get a control system finished before I take 2 weeks leave. 14 hours days meant that I wasn't in a good state for riding 2 hours a day. So only rode 3 days this past week. Anyway, got the job done so now I can enjoy my time off, well, enjoy it as much as I can, watching myself fall down the challenge ladder...

First week of work this year and I got to commute 4 days so roaring up the leader board now that I have a 4km commute... well first few days had to change accommodation so I now have 15km... excluding 2 day conference next week and 3 days training the week after...so holding 20th place like a rock

In p1. Don't know for how long. Off to the physio tonight. Calf is tight, so are the hammies. Hope it's just tight and not broke

Well done Jason on getting to the lead. Well deserved. I hope your leg problems are not too serious. I have a weeks leave coming up in July so you should be able to push off into the distance.

Cheers, Mick

I'm bowing out - will be working from home in a couple of weeks so no more commuting for me, I'm very sad to say. Have fun!

Well that's it for me - after buying and preparing a new bike, cracking 2100k's and reaching 13th, a new job with a new office with no bike parking or showers means I'm off the bike and on to public transport. It was great while it lasted..

Certainly very competitive, quite a few groups of 2 running neck and neck.

6 months to gain or lose on your rivals.

I managed to ride for 6 days after my 2 week hiatus before I got sent OS for work again. Back now though, so will be able to break through the 5k barrier tomorrow and continue onward. I think I have another trip coming up soon though...

The last few mornings have been really cold out here in Sydney's western suburbs. I don't know if it is this or staying up late to watch the TDF that has dropped my average speed but it has.

What do others find this time of year regarding their speed? And why?

Speed  "speed" goes down due to wet weather, apathy, my fear that most vehicle's inability to see me clearly due to weather conditions and apathy.

takes more energy to keep the body warm so you have less energy to cycle with = slower. not much thankfully as i'm slow enough. 16-18 degrees ambient temperature is perfect for me

I always struggle to keep the average speed up in winter. Wet roads and slower cornering, along with the dark, don't help. Possibly the cold has an effect too. But I have noticed my average speed has dropped and I am trying to get it up to 25KMh which is hard given I am basically a commuter. When I did do a recreational ride I managed to average 28KMh over 100 KMs so I can go faster, commuting does make it hard.

Also missed out on my ride yesterday as home with a really crap cold, this challenge is so competitive missing one day puts you on the back foot very quickly.
