So you should basically have two bikes. A nice one that you are only allowed to ride on special occasions, and another one for commuting, etc?

This trek would seem to tick both boxes.

FWIW, I use a Giant TCR for commuting some times. It might be an unfashionable brand name, but that bike is below the racing minimum weight and is very, very fast. It has no troubles being used for commuting. It's a bike, so it'll get ridden. I can keep mine inside our building though, as do a few others who ride racing bikes.

Aww gawd, they are bikes, they are designed to be ridden. Mine have sporting groupsets (2x Dura Ace 9000, 1x Ultegra Di2, 1x 105) and get ridden a huge amount in all sorts of weather and they survive. You just have to look after them like anything else. I don't want to sound grumpy, but it's not that hard.

Yes. That is exactly how I framed my opinion as to why I thought it was excessive. I'm so glad you understand.

Haven't you commuted on the P5? That's hardcore. I keep seeing the little pic on the commuter challenge

Meh, ride what you want I say :D

Uh, yeah I have. It's not nearly as extreme as it looks.
