I’d be in for that- the Strava iPhone app massively overstates my elevation, esp in the cbd

Jason has looked into this... issue you have is there is no consistency with elevation , eg same group ride can produce different elevations for the same ride...and can widely be out otherwise would be fun... I like aim for 1000mtr a day commuting
1000m per day??? I get maybe 1000 per week.

I typically average a bit over 700m a day on my commutes, mainly because my home suburb is at 160m, while where I work in Melbourne is barely above sea-level. So my 31km trip each way has plenty of climbing. 1000m a day is pretty impressive.

Auckland is lumpy... and I live and work on a hill and normally hit sea level at some point in the commute unless I do just hills. Last place I lived at was fun starting with a 20%+ driveway and then a big climb to the main road... plus I do like hills I have a set time that I want to be at work and if I get in early I do Mount Eden repeats until time to go in https://www.strava.com/activities/1371795636

Can I get a ruling please? Family BBQ on Sunday with the BF - if we, instead of driving, took the bikes on a train to a starting point 50km from the destination, and ride to the barbie from there, does it count? We are deliberately making it further than it would be going direct from home, but downbreeze.

As I read it Lizzie you have replaced a car journey with a multi-modal trip including a bike. Sounds like a commute to me.

Tomorrow I am riding to Geelong & back so we don’t have to take a 2nd car, which I’m planning on entering as a commute. I didn’t count the other trips this week where there was a spot in the car but I chose to ride

I look at what the main aim of the ride is... A couple of Christmas back we had to go to christmas lunch and the car was full so I took the bike but the aim of the ride was to go to lunch so I claimed it as a commute and at over 200km was a good one but last Christmas I had to go from my parents place to a friends and was offered lifts but I wanted to cycle to test bikepacking gear so although it classified as a commute, commuting wasnt the aim of the ride so I didnt count it...pity as it was 600km and as it when I got there and saved the ride I found out there wasnt any spare rooms that night so I rode to my sisters which also would have been a commute but I felt it was part of the days ride so didnt count it, which would have been enough to win the challenge...

just found this thread. i've been looking at the old one.

I'd love to see it too. sadly endomondo doesn't allow it.

lizzy - the cycling part of your multi-mode commute counts.

as cancan, my arch nemisis, has started. this challenge isn't about winning a week, it's about consistency. looks like i'm the only one in qld. winter is normally two days below twenty (though we do get 0 degrees in the morning where I live)

i'll be happy with a top 3 finish - 5 weeks off heading in the same direction as Cyclophiliac will stop me for going for 4 in a row - I'm happy to make up the numbers. be interesting to see how strydz goes over winter this year.

i'm going to close the competition off from the general public. if any one wants to enter, post here, and i'll temporarily re-open it.

Just signed up to the first link, then found I was a few hours too late...
Let me know if it opens up again.
Also, does it link to Strava or is it manual entry?

It's both. It'll pick up the rides from Strava then you'll have to manually change them to commutes. Unless you're using Endo's mobile app, I think......

If there is an easier way can some PLEASE share it!

Challenge is open again
easiest way:
IF you have a Garmin, connect your endomondo account to your Garmin connect account. Then when you upload your ride to Garmin connect it will automatically upload your ride to endomondo (and strava if you have that connected) all you need to do is log on to endomondo and change the ride type to cycling transport. Easy

I use my iPhone with the mobile app. I also use it for Strava, so I just start both apps before the start of the ride. I only use Endomondo for commutes so other rides only get recorded on Strava. Yesterday I rode to the velodrome towing my track bike, Then rode the track bike for a while doing some drills, and then towed by track bike home. The to and from rides are entered as commutes. I just recorded one ride on Strava for the whole thing.

I stick my phone in my pocket so I don't have any distractions on the handlebars.

Cheers,

Cameron

Thanks. Have signed up.
Wish I could just drag and drop from Strava.
Going to manually enter this years commutes so far.
Have been using the Strava app for commutes - my Wahoo Elemnt Bolt is only used on weekend rides.
Might try running both Strava and Endomondo apps on the phone to see how it goes.
Cheers.

Zippy - just use the wahoo for all rides. The endomondo site accepts those files

I don't use a bike computer for the commute, so I'll just try using both apps.
(I have a separate commuter bike to the weekend bike, and only have the mount on the weekend bike for the wahoo)

I have stopped using Strava and stopped logging my riding all together.

I am still commuting but will bow out of the challenge as I have no idea how far I am riding.

+1 Mate i'd be happy if you just threw in a monthly estimate - and if not safe riding.
Not fast, no style, but still get there.

Given the news recently I can understand why you might have made that decision - maybe you could go old school & use something that measures wheel turns rather than plotting your gps location at 1 s intervals.

you can still use Endomondo or Wahoo (or other apps) on your smartphone.

when I was doing the commuting challenge, i uploaded data from my phone, avoiding Strava entirely.

Yes I suppose I can just estimate everyday. I pretty much ride 40-50kms a day as I still ride the same ways too and from work.

I just enter the time, speed and distance manually from my Cateye speedo. No need for a GPS if you don't want to use it.

I've left the challenge. I noticed that one of the other members of the challenge was doing rides of up to 140+ km on weekends, and claiming them as commutes. When others make a mockery of the challenge in that manner, I just can't be bothered participating any more.
