Good price for a rich guy

Going with the powertap for ease with changing between 2 bikes.

I generally find the better known retailers in the US have the best (landed) prices.

But it's been several years since I've bought a PT. Back then local prices were more than double the direct import price. And very little back up support for the premium. Maybe things have changed, not sure.

RST sells them out of the UK (Ric's the UK distributor for PTs) but unfortunately, due to some weird business turnover rules, Ric can't take the VAT off for export. Shame 'cause his prices would be very good otherwise.

I have in the past happily recommended Richard Sawris at wheelbuilder.com
He has always been good to me.

I sent emails about 2 weeks ago to a few companys with some questions I had, and got a very quick, helpfull reply from Bob at the company mentioned above. I exchanged about 2-3 further emails and got the same great response, with not a bit of pressure. Its worth keeping an eye out on their website if your thinking of a future purchase as they have some good deals on selected products (with the 15% VAT also off those prices), with the bonus of free delivery which was very quick!

I've contacted quite a few companys over the last few months via e-mail, and theres not been to many that you get good service from in that department!

Ah, yes, I forgot about Bob Tobin - good catch. He sells lots of PTs in UK, he might be in a better position re the VAT issue than Ric at RST is. Lots of good things said about Bob by many I interact with. Ric knows him as well.

Yeah it arrived yesterday after being shipped on Wednesday. I went with the pro+ kit and will have it built into a kinlin rim to match the wheels I bought.

Really looking forward to the next few months. Training wise has been non existent really in the past, I just went out for rides paying no attention to HR or anything like that. About as technical as I got was a spinervals dvd when it was raining, so will be interesting to see how things go.

Hey TLL, I've had mine for a couple of months now. I love it. Well, more like I love getting coached. This thing has the ability to annoy the sh%t out of me on some days, trying to hold a zone outdoors, and watching the reading jump all over the place! gah!
It keeps you honest though. On training routes I've done a fair amount of in the past, I done yesterday with the powermeter, and couldn't believe the amount of pedalling I needed to be doing going down some undulations, and also, whenever you start to softly pedal (which I used to do a lot of, but never realised it at the time), it tells you!

Thing is, with max 5sec / 5min / 20min, you've got to actually do some max efforts to get some numbers. I do what coach tells me

Well it's free, that's one good point.

But for the range of capability and some key metrics, it's hard to go past WKO+.

I downloaded the trial version of trainingpeaks, and bought the thing before I even took the powertap CD out of the pack.

Poweragent works on Mac.

WKO doesn't have a native Mac version, so you'd need to use a parallel operating system of some kind. There can be problems in getting devices to download in those circumstances. But working out a way to make WKO work on a Mac is worth it, compared to just using Poweragent. There are quite a number on wattage forum who have it sussed.
